The Field EP is the debut release on Vitalik from Barcelona based producer and dj, August Artier. August has released on labels such as RAWAX, Serialism and 2020 Vision’s Exit Planet Earth series. He co-hosts the ’Beneath The Surface’ show on Openlab Radio with friend and collaborator, Mick Wilson.

The Field EP is a two track EP of acid house tracks with solid breakbeat and techno remixes from Iron Curtis, Paul Loraine and Francesco Mami.
Artier builds tension with The Field. Panicked acid, frenetic drums and syncopated staccato vocals create an aura of peak time suspense. Iron Curtis’s remix is a slow burning, breakbeat behemoth. It stays true to the original but gently teases the elements out over driving broke beats and a bubbling and squishing 303 workout.

The Morning After eases the tension with its gently uplifting chord arpeggios. Paul Loraine and Francesco Mami deliver a hypnotic, spaced out, percussive techno jam. A heady mix spacial techno and their signature restraint.

There are two styles that Dachshund does particularly well, airtight dance-floor grooves and lush emotive deep house. The Towards Others EP leans largely to the latter but with a knowing glance to the floor. Dachshund's skill with subtle, well-placed vocals is particularly evident on this EP. What we have here is a beautifully rounded EP of timeless house music.

Giv U Luv kicks off the EP with joyous optimism, uplifting and ethereal, this is feel good house music, sunshine music, music to warm hearts and dance-floors.

With it's stirring vocals and permeating chords Take My Soul is the big emotive cut of the EP, moving things into more reflective territory it's yearning vocals and stirring pads take the listener to a deeper place.

The aptly titled Mmmmm is a low-slung chunk of hip shaking house music at it's finest. Slow and sexy the Spanish dialogue between man and woman narrate the listener through its winding rhythms, intensifying the sensual feel of the track.

Amir Alexander perhaps the ideal choice to remix Mmmmm adds more swing and an additional FM bass line which gives the track an old-school electro feel. He gently teases out the crescendos, lengthening the synth rises and emphasizing all the best elements of the original. The result is something of a dj weapon.

NYC Cougar is Hugo Barritt's third full EP on Vitalik Recordings, making him one of the most consistent artists on the Ibiza based imprint. His signature sound has been a large part of shaping the sound of the label thus far. Understated, spacious percussion and ethereal, haunting melodies are Hugo's specialties.

Barritt's music possesses an inherent dreamlike quality, which can be heard in his work with Robert Owens and Lana Del Ray. It's also a quality that permeates the NYC Cougar EP. Throughout the EP Barritt exhibits his deftness at teasing out gentle hypnotic grooves and a capacity to elevate his listener to a higher place.

Rui Da Silva appears under his missing beats guise dropping a solid dancefloor groove, snapping the original out it's azure daydream into lucid and robust chunks of ass shaking house music.

Vitalik label head Soulade also makes an appearance, delivering a contrasting mix of dark fizzing acid and low slung fm bass, his contribution giving the original a distinctly oldschool flavour and rounding off the EP in seemly emotive ardour.

Hugo Barritt - NYC COUGAR feat. Rui Da Silva & Soulade (clips)

A Club Called Heaven is the debut release from Italian duo Frankie Mami and Edberg on Vitalik Recordings. The duo first came into contact with the Ibiza based imprint via their Circo Loco residency and their studio work with friends and label mates, System Of Survival. DOSʼs prowess in the studio was soon made apparent, Frankie being well schooled in the arts of mixing and mastering and crucially their joint ability as purveyors if fine house.
Space plays a lead role in this EP, there is refreshing expansiveness throughout. The warm bass and ethereal melodies of the title track set the tone. ʻAphaseʼ builds the tension with its gently phasing lead and deep reverberated keys. The aptly named ʻOutta Spaceʼ takes things into orbit, deftly layered percussion and reverb create a lush sound-bed for the crescendo of synths that step the track up into something quite special – a transitional energy track, a secret weapon.
Friend and DC10 stalwart resident Andrew Grant delivers a remix that is deeply reflective of the kind of slow, chugging monsters that daytime dancing in DC10 became famous for. The shimmering, forlorn lead contrasts acutely against the low-slung dub bass to give his interpretation an almost anthemʼic quality.
Vitalik regular Paul Loraine delivers some resolute dance floor action in the form of a steady rolling builder. A solid kick and a stabbing bass line wound in a hypnotic groove are the essence of this remix. In keeping with the vibe of the EP itʼs understated but simple and effective.

With releases on labels such as Rush Hour, Counterchange, and Delsin, be it house or techno, Nubian Mindz wear each hat with matching aplomb. Which ever sonic stylings are at hand, hi-tech machine soul is always de riguer. On this, their debut release on Vitalik Recordings, they pay tribute to the classical house sounds of New York and Chicago.
Circo Loco resident and one half of Peace Divison Clive Henry makes his first appearance the Ibiza based imprint with friend and collaborator Alex Arnout. As does Will Berridge under his Path moniker, displaying why he is pegged as one of UKs most promising upcoming artists.
Moment of Truth is spacious and atmospheric. Dissonant, descending pads wash over a heavy kick. The bright electric keys stand in stark contrast to the drunken decent of it's warbling sound-bed, the result is pleasingly incongruous, head music for house heads.
Clive Henry and Alex Arnout make a formidable remix duo on this e.p. Their remix is an airtight groove aimed squarely at the floor. A simple, infectious bass loop filters in and out below the washes of the top line, building the suspense but never peaking, just maintaining that solid heads down dance-floor groove.
Path add that U.K. flavour. Big swung beats and an almost exhibitionist feat of audio acrobatics. Samples are twisted and reversed in rhythmic swing. There's a very special moment midway through that will see this track being dropped at that key moment of the night when the mood shifts gear.
Back 2 House is a frenetic MPC workout, acid house on steroids for want of a better description. Furious machine drum crescendos are broken with an incomprehensible but stupidly catchy vocal.... something about house I think. What's certain is this is a peak time banger, a weapon of mass disco ruction.
Center of Excellence eases out the ep with another hypnotic and atmospheric number. Reminiscent of early Gemini material on Peacefrog, jazzy freeform keys meander to and fro, letting the mind wander like a daydream in delta wave.

'Bushwacka! needs little introduction from me but I will say we are honoured to have one of the most pivotal characters in the UK underground electronic music scene finally make his debut on our label. 

I first heard Matthew play at a party called Whoop Whoop in the early 2000’s, it was a gritty squat party in an old boozer somewhere at the end of the District line, I was asked by a friend to do the lights tat the party, new to London I didn’t actually know anything about the event at the time but I experienced Bushwacka! spinning his magic behind the decks for the first time and realised stood next to him his exceptional ability as a DJ, it led me down long path of discovery of his own releases and his output on his labels… 

We met again in 2006 through a mutual friend who invited Matthew to come play at our full moon cave party for his birthday, this led to a friendship to playing and many crazy moonlit parties under the Ibiza skies together. Tesseract 3 is the third and final remix EP from the Corpus Hypercubus album, Tesseract 1&2 featured Appleblim, Radioactive Man, Paul Loraine, Francesco Mami and Midnight Operator (Matthew Jonson & Nathan Jonson). Inland, Clive Henry & Blind Minded step up to the plate for this EP. The original track featuring Path has all the trademark expansive soundscapes of the featured artist combined with the percussive and emotive melodic elements that permeate the album. Inland treats us to an intense techno workout full of suspense and drama, peak time techno at its finest. Finally Clive Henry & Blind Minded move things into after hours territory with a slow moving breakbeat roller with influences of Villalobos and a nod his early Peace Division work.

It’s been a while since the last Soulade release on Vitalik, times of confinement and hardship can be a catalyst for creativity and productivity. This three track EP features the usual bass heavy traits of a Soulade release but this EP veers into slightly more techy electronic territory than previous releases. ‘Mental Stasis’ is expansive as it is dynamic, big pad washes over squelching analogue bass, the track takes a multitude of rhythmic tangents not uncommon in Soulade’s typical A.D.D. production style but an evolution in terms pf production values. 'Neon Glow' cuts staccato Rhodes stabs through deep rumbling sub, it’s strange twisting vocals only kick in later in the track opening it up to warm washes of a Korg poly 61, elevating the track into more soulful ethereal territory. 'Grumbler' is an ode to Soulades early drum and bass days, it’s 4/4 beats but the bass is heavily influenced from d&b and so is the cheeky vocal sample that Bukem fans will recognise.
