You! Yes—YOU! There isn’t much time to explain any of this, but let’s try. Who are Yoricks? Yoricks are the ordinary people who delude themselves into being extraordinary. Yoricks are forgotten, but then remembered. Yoricks speak trivially of the serious and seriously of the trivial. Yoricks accidentally spill hot tea on their scrotums and laugh. You can be a Yorick simply by declaring you are Yorick.

The first Yorick died in Denmark during the Renaissance. Now there are four new Yoricks: Andrew Harness (guitar), Martin Michalek (vocals), Max Miles (bass), and Trevor Hull (drums). Yoricks live in Detroit, MI—the urban equivalent of Schrödinger’s Cat. The paradoxes of Detroit seem to fit comfortably with the band’s sound. Calling upon the tradition of Michigan’s wily rock ‘n’ roll, Yoricks slur about being bored in Arcady, even while festive flutes play. Yoricks holler about overeducated PhD students who are too clever for their own good to make friends. Yoricks occasionally sing about nothing in particular. With their instruments in hand and their tongues in their cheeks, this neonatal band is finding their voice and letting the public hear while they grow. Yoricks are writing songs to praise their own pantheon, which has a seat for everyone from Sappho to The Smiths, Jesus to John Lennon, and Aleister Crowley to Elvis. You, reader!
