NOAA: "Wind chills have already been... as cold as 40 below zero at Asheville... wind chills near -20 are expected at times in the N. Foothills and NW Piedmont."

ME: "6 PM [Mar. 13]. We just started to get winds here at the house that look to be in the 40 mph range, a little higher than earlier."

WBTV: "...overwhelmed by it all. Blizzards normally happen in the mountains, not here."

WBTV: "The National Guard stepped in to help."

WBTV: "[The power companies] can only go where the plows have gone, and the plows haven't even kept up with the snow so they've been pretty close into the city."

WBTV: "Heavy snow is caving in rooftops & awnings."

WBTV: "We even skid off the roadway in our big WBTV news van and landed just a few feet away from a telephone pole."

WBTV: "Bashing the Outer Banks as well this evening... high winds whipping sand along streets... powerful waves crashing..."
