I, the Church, am the true bride
Of the Most Exalted One

1. All praise to the True Bridegroom
Who came down and betrothed me
“I am bless’d” declares the Church
“I worship Him who loves me.”

2. Bless’d am I to confess Him
Who has established for me
A bridal room in the heights
Where I may rejoice with friends!

3. Creation was astonished
On the day He betrothed me,
For He made this poor girl rich.
Oh, how He exalted me!

4. Deliv’ring me from idols,
He revealed His Myst`e`ries
And promised “Till the world ends,
I will be with you always”

5. Every good thing I received
Came from the Son of the King,
From His Father’s Treasure House.
Therefore, I will worship Him

6. Forsaking the evil one
Who misled me through idols,
I praise Jesus Who saved me
And Who has made me worthy

7. Girding me through Baptism
With armor of the Spirit,
He placed His Body and Blood
As the ring on my finger.

8. How the Groom is like the sun!
And how I am like the day!
How this joyous wedding feast
Is like the sweet fragrant tree!

9. I had heard of His Good News
And of His loving-kindness
So I set out to find Him,
My True and Holy Bridegroom

10. Just as kindling for the fire
My mind burned with love for Him
Even before see`ing Him,
I confessed my love for Him

11. Keeping His joy in my heart,
I searched both the sea and land
I sought Him in Bethlehem
But He had left for Egypt

12. Longing for my love with joy
I came to Egypt with hope
But they told me He had left
From Egypt for Nazareth

13. Making haste to see my Lord
I set out for Nazareth
When I reached there, I was told
He had left for the Jordan

14. Neither did I fear the way,
Nor had I fear of robbers.
I set out for the Jordan,
And searched for Him in the crowds

15. Overcome with exhaustion,
I fell asleep and missed Him,
But was told that my Bridegroom
Called me to a wedding feast

16. Parting from there for Cana
I went to attend the feast.
There I was served the great wine
Made from water by my Lord

17. Quickly, my Love left that place
Before I could see His face
The friends and groom of the feast
See`ing me alone asked me:

18. “Radiant One, whom do You seek?
For your Belov`ed has gone
To preach in the wilderness.
Go and find Him in the crowds!

19. Struck by the scent of His love,
I went to the wilderness.
His fragrant love gladdened me
And made my face shine brightly

20. Turning my ear to the crowd,
I heard one among them say,
“Her groom is at Golgotha
And has been hung on the tree.”

21. Upon hearing this, I wept
And I was consumed with grief.
Desperately I ran to Him
To the Cross on Golgotha

22. Vainly, I ran to my Lord
Who had been hung on the Cross
But there I was told that He
Had been laid inside the tomb

23. Weeping with such great sorrow
I leaned my head on that tree.
Then an angel came and said,
“Weep not for Christ is risen!”

24. Exulted, I went with haste
To the tomb in the Garden
There I heard His loving voice
And rejoiced exceedingly

25. Yearning for so long for Him
I embraced Him and kissed Him.
My face was made rad`i`ant
Then He spoke to me lovingly

26. “Zion, my belov`ed bride
Come in peace, O my betrothed!
I must go to my Father
Who will send you the Spirit.”
