Following in the footsteps of Anjuna superstars Mat Zo, ARTY, ilan Bluestone and Grum, the tenth instalment in the legendary Anjunabeats Worldwide compilation series leads you to the darkest of dance floors; an underground techno and trance trip courtesy of US-based duo Fatum.

Ubiquitous on Anjuna over the last decade in various guises, Bruce Karlsson and Daniel Davis have been responsible for an abundance of catalogue classics.

Bruce was an architect of the electro-tinged grooves that made Norin & Rad a tour-de-force throughout the early 2010s with the likes of ‘Bloom’, ‘Pistol Whip’ and ‘Thundercat’. Dan, crate-digger and intricate melody maker as Judah (w/ Chris Nelson), responsible for the likes of ‘Boss Fight’, ‘Nomad’ and ‘Zero-Day’.

Always found at their best together, Fatum launched as a quartet in 2015 alongside Chad Newbold and the sorely missed Bill Hamel. Boisterous floor fillers ‘Chocolate, ‘Love On A Real Train’ (Tangerine Dream Cover) and ‘All In’ followed, the latter reworked by Above & Beyond in May 2020.

Anjunabeats Worldwide 10 is a 21 track journey championing the past, present and future sound of the label. There are five original productions from Fatum themselves, including collaborations with Jaytech, Mars Atlas, LYCA and re:boot. Mainstays of the Anjunabeats family Mat Zo, Genix, Grum, ALPHA 9 and Sunny Lax are present, while Anjunabeats Rising graduates Naz and Alex Sonata & TheRio have their first outing on a label compilation.

Fatum also bring cult favourites back to the dance floor, reworking Andy Moor and Adam White’s ‘Whiteroom’ and Above & Beyond’s ‘Alone Tonight’ - the sought-after Alexandra Palace remix which first aired nearly a decade ago.

Deersky’s Soundteller Records adds another impressive name to their roster with B.A.X. making his label debut. Classically trained, the Vietnamese artist owns an impressive discography highlighted by releases on fryhide, Manual Music and Sound Avenue. Now continuing an impressive run of projects, the Ho Chi Minh City resident lands on Soundteller with ‘Litany’.

Known for his sonic versatility, B.A.X. explores the deep, dreamy realms of house on ‘Litany’. Undeniably charming, it’s an eight minute journey of glowing arps, flowing textures and exotic drums. Profoundly meditative, rising atmospheres continue to elevate mood across the first act, before a serene centrepiece ultimately seals it’s emotional appeal.

The companion piece ‘Corals Realm’ carries a similar design profile to its predecessor. Reflective in tone, it’s emotive prowess is undeniable, with layer upon layer of textural colour blanketing pulsating rhythms and warm bass swells perfectly. The combination of poignant arps and heartfelt harmonics lies at the core of the narrative, as gentle modulation pushes the sonic envelope just enough for an understated apex. Since making his label debut on 'Explorations 07’ back in 2018, Marsh has solidified himself as a firm label favourite and future star. Championed by the likes of Joris Voorn, Kölsch, and Phil Taggart at BBC Radio 1, Marsh now returns with his ‘Lost In You EP’.

Leading with ‘Lost In You’, Marsh lends his own vocal to the track, characteristically weaving a driving bass with groove-laden percussion. Next up, with its shivering arpeggios riffs and dreamlike atmospherics, the reminiscent ‘Gijpe’ gives a nod to the label’s inaugural ‘Explorations’ festival in Dhërmi last summer where Marsh performed on the secluded beaches of Albania’s Ionia Coast. A highlight from ‘Anjunadeep 11’ earlier in the year, Marsh closes the EP with another meticulously crafted melodic cut with the piano-led ‘Human’.

Continuing what has been an incredible year, Alex O'Rion returns to Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'The Long Walk'. Having made his label debut in 2019 with the highly regarded 'Marathon' EP, the Dutch artist also lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. 2020 has proved to be a prolific year for the talented Dutchman, as he now finds himself as the producer of the moment, following a long line of Beatport Top five remixes and notable DJ support. Now firmly allied with the progressive music elite, Alex makes a welcome return to Replug with a three-track artist showcase. 

Getting the release underway and sitting as one of Alex's most emotive productions to date is the title selection 'The Long Walk'. Warm beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of wistful arps and uniquely tailored percussion. Pushing a poignant narrative, plush tones and hopeful overlays drift across the framework for impassioned moments, before melting down into a glowing centrepiece. Free and flowing, the interlude spans nearly two minutes in length, gently building tension through muted beats and ethereal phrases, before a trail of vocal gates and waves of noise cue a heartfelt finale.

Equally excellent, the second selection 'Mirari' furthers the EP's whimsical appeal. Smooth, elegant and a touch romantic, the 'Day Mix' delights with its creamy tones and elegant motifs. Thoughtful atmospherics carry the dreamlike storyboard, while pulsating bass lines marry surreal melodic concepts, before an expansive break provides the perfect prelude to a gorgeous final act. The 'Night Mix' sits as a worthy alternative with it's darker, dubbier approach, highlighting the main themes in less distinct fashion while delivering the message with a tougher groove and equally fluid narrative. 

Putting on a stamp on this enthralling collection are the surreal melodies and modern architecture of 'Komodo'. Dark and compelling in equal measure, it's a collage of lively percussion, sprawling synth phrases and otherworldly effects which captivate across the seven-minute journey. Prophetic themes and siren-like synths expand the musical narrative across a cavernous break, gently washing over a rumbling underbelly, heightening the senses and ultimately closing the release out on a mystical note.

As Alex O'Rion continues to navigate a landmark year, his latest Replug vehicle 'The Long Walk' is sure to unite progressive music fans with his undeniable blend of talent, craft and technique.
