3 QUESTIONS to DANIELE DI MARTINO:

Q: Talking about your mix. You met the bass in very different styles. How did you get into electronic music once?

A: My first step into music was at the age of four. My mother was a pianist and each of my three brothers and I had to learn a classical instrument. I learned the violin cello and later I was part of a youth chamber orchestra that went on tour once a year across the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. There I heard from another musician - the Dr. Dre 2001 album. My hip hop era alongside classical music began and later on, skating brought a little punk rock to it. At the age of 16, electronic music slowly moved into my focus and grew to my big passion over the next years. Also I made my first attempts as a DJ and began to play some gigs later on. In 2013 I decided to follow my passion, therefore I moved to Berlin and began to produce my own tracks. In the beginning, these were all free downloads on Soundcloud until I finally had my
first official release in 2014. Today, 6 years after my first official release, I’ve released over 73 tracks on labels like Get Physical Music, Stil Vor Talent and BeatFreak Recordings to name a few and also I founded my own label & publishing called Mono.Noise. In my mixtape for How I Met The Bass, I’ve tried to depict all my styles from classical, Hip Hop, Punk Rock to Melodic Techno and I hope you enjoy listening.

Q: How have you spent your off-time since March '20?

A: When the lockdown in Germany was decided, we set up a streaming format in a group project consisting of artists, club operators and a film equipment company, which had reached over 4 million streams by the summer. A lot of volunteer hours went into the "Birdhouse" format and kept me busy during the first lockdown. In the summer, my studio partner and friend Robin Schellenberg and I helped the “Wilde Möhre Festival” with their booking for one of their small festival weekends, the Maskenball. Actually, I’ve not really expected to perform any gigs after the first lockdown during the summer but in the end I played over 12 gigs. In the summer I also finished my SBF See license, because sailing is one of my favourite things next to music. I’ve also used my free time to teach myself Premiere Pro and to finish my Bachelor degree after a long break. If everything goes well, I'll be finished by the end of March 2021. And of course I have also released new music, 12 originals and a
remix. 

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: The first big project will be the finish of my BA degree and then I finally have a lot of time again to focus on my music. After that I plan to release 4 EPs again and to start my first album. The idea of producing my own album has interested me for a long time and what times could be better than today.
