FML, Forever (Demo)

My name's Nathan and I'm a 23 year old musician based out of Rochester, New York. Since I was 16, I've been playing guitar in metal bands all across the U.S. I've been lucky enough to see the world, tour with bands I grew up listening to, sign to a label, and pay my bills off of music.

A couple years ago, as touring started to lose its dependency as income, I decided to dive into the world of co-writing. At 18, I packed my bags and moved out to LA to live on a friends couch while I tried to talk my way into any session I could get into. I was lucky enough to get a foot in for a couple of writing sessions for songs that got radio play, one of which that wound up going gold (Somebody To You by The Vamps) but after only two months of being out there, I quickly realized that life in So-cal wasn’t for me. Once again, I packed my bags, moved back into my parents house and went back out on the road. During my off time between tours, I started teaching myself how to record and produce in my parents basement.  

After years of letting dust collect on a hard drive filled with demo's of songs that I’ve written and recorded, I decided to start this project as a way for these songs to see the light of day. The main point of this project was to have no boundaries and step outside of my usual comfort zone. To make music for the sake of making music, not to worry about getting signed, impressing others, or becoming another bitch to the industry. I grew up loving pop music but I've used these songs as a challenge to experiment with different genres, to not only grow as a writer, but also as a producer. 

I’m not much of a singer and most of these songs have been recorded with outdated software, a broken laptop, a $100 microphone, and a two channel interface, but these songs are my therapy. Every one of these songs were written without the intention of ever having anyone hear them. The bottom line of this project is for me to write whatever the fuck I want, whenever the fuck I want. I haven’t quite figured out exactly how I plan on releasing albums, and I don’t know how much longer I’ll be living with my parents, but I do know that I will never stop writing music, and I will never stop trying to grow as a musician, meaning this project is infinite. 

A lot has changed over the years. I’m not a little kid with a rock-star dream anymore. I went back to school, became a middle school teacher, and now I wake up for work, the same time I would be falling asleep on tour. Through every change that comes with growing up, there is one part of that will always be the same. Music is my solitude, these songs are my therapy, and I hope they can do for you what they’ve done for me.
