my first foray into the intersection of Mormonism and Spiritualism. A huge topic to be sure, so I decided to start at the very beginning. The Fox sisters conned millions of Americans and spawned a movement that would flourish in Britain as well. Ever wonder why seances, and all kinds of occult stuff was so popular pre turn of the 20th century? Well here are some answers. And did spiritualism affect Mormons way out west? well listen and you just might find the answer revealed.

The founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, -otherwise known as the Mormon Church- Joseph Smith, is considered to have received the doctrines and beliefs of the church through divine, and very direct communication with God.  But further analysis shows that Joseph was really a genius at gathering together thoughts, ideas, and teachings from many sources. Specifically  Emmanuel Swedenborg's writings may hold the key to many of the core tenants of Mormonism. Is he to be given credit, or is he really the church's true originator?

Nelson Lowry played a pivotal role in deconstructing the Mormon church'  long-standing doctrine of discrimination. This is my effort to promote his memory and lay out the chronology of events leading up to the revelation in 1978 that ended racist policies toward blacks.

Progressive Mormons often seek change to church counsel and policies. In this episode I describe a time when the vast majority of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints simply said, "No thank you" to certain guidelines from church authorities. When leader attempted to curtail members activities in the bedroom, especially with regard to oral sex...well those directives quietly went away.
