An infectiously feel-good selection of sounds from around the globe kicks off our We Out Here mix series, courtesy of Worldwide Fm’s @cocomariamusic. 

A specialist in Brazilian, South-, Central-American, and Caribbean wax, Coco hosts the regular “Club Coco” show on Worldwide FM transporting listeners to sunnier sides of the musical world. This hour-long compilation binds slices of bossa nova, samba, cumbia and all sorts of rarities, guaranteed to bring a smile to the face and tap to the feet. Thank you for kicking us off Coco <3

WOH MIX.01 - Coco Maria

Il Bosco (@christian-wood)transports us to the glory days of iconic Manchester night, Friends and Family, for the next instalment of our mix series.   A hip-hop, all-vinyl session; pulling together all the favourite records he used to play back then for a very special 60-minutes.

Taking place at the Roadhouse, a sweaty, low-ceilinged basement, the Fat City Records crew ran ‘Friends and Family’ weekly from 2000-2009. In that time it cultivated a huge family-feel fan base, and a solid roster of resident DJs, many of which have no doubt shaped UK club culture as we know it. Alongside Il Bosco, Jon K, MC Kwasi, DJ Riton, Ross Allen and more regularly took to the decks, as well as guest appearances from likes of Madlib, Mr Thing and J Rocc.

From Friends and Family, Il Bosco went on to found @red-laser-records: a Manchester-proud, Italo fusion platform that advocates “Italo Missiles, analogue chuggers, boogie bombs and acid heat”. As a DJ he’s notched up appearances worldwide, most popularly associated with the Italo sounds of his label.
 
This mix takes him back to his roots. Whilst perhaps best listened to as intended: crammed into a sweaty basement, for now, cranking it loud on a bank holiday in the sunshine will definitely do.

WOH MIX.02 - Il Bosco - Hip-Hop Special

Up next on our mix series with an hour of slick dance tunes: Rinse Fm’s IZCO (@e5izco). DJ and producer IZCO has built up a well-respected rep in London’s garage & grime scene, both through colabs with the likes of Capo Lee, Logan and Nico Lindsay alongside his weekly Rinse show which showcases skilful selections and up & coming guests.
