Sharing the first in series of Live Recordings from We Out Here 2024. 🎶

After we shared the moment Gilles Peterson played Studio Rio’s Samba version of ‘Lovely Day’, we’ve had a lot of requests to restart our mix series. We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be publishing some of the DJ sets we caught so you can relive a handful our favourite moments from across the weekend.

Next up in our mix series, we're stopping by Love Dancin' for an extended 4 hour Friday night journey.

Join us as Mr Scruff & Charlie Dark land in charge of selections alongside the legendary MC Kwasi & Vanessa Freeman jump in on vocal duties.

While these four need no introduction, we couldn't help but give you a little whistle stop tour of these incredible artists:

>> Mr Scruff
DJ, Producer & Cartoonist As a DJ, Andy Carthy aka Mr. Scruff plays across the board, flitting between soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, latin, african, ska, disco, house, funk, breaks, soundtracks and loads more. As a producer he makes music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humour.

>> Charlie Dark
Raised in South London on a diet of pirate radio and warehouse parties, Charlie Dark has been spinning records and igniting dance floors since the early eighties. If you ever caught his Blacktronica Parties at the legendary Plastic People then you’ll know that 'All forms of music in one room the way it used to be’ has always been his motto and his record crates run deep to live by that mantra.

>> MC Kwasi
Black Swan Lane and The Chameleons member MC Kwasi has worked with more artists and DJs than you could imagine. Possibly most famous as Mr Scruff's right wing man, the loveable MC was the host of the seminal Friends & Family events and has been featured on tracks with the likes of Suns Of Arqa, The Messengers, Mark Rae, DJ Vadim and Beatphreak.

>> Vanessa Freeman
Last but not least Singer, songwriter and performer Vanessa Freeman. Vanessa's voice is an experience to behold, immediately distinctive, unadulterated quality and sheer joy. Her live performances are spiritual, recordings timeless and her songs sublime. Vanessa's musical career started early when she joined the local church chorus at the age of twelve and her impact has been felt by many notably for the huge contribution to the acid jazz revival in the nineties.

Together they bring one of our most outstanding collective performances this year. Sit back and relax or get up and dance.

A set that works in every way possible - this one's perfect for winding up or winding down.

From day into night, listen back to Luke Una’s takeover from We Out Here...

We were honoured to have close friend of We Out Here, Luke Una, join us again this year for a very special takeover.

Standing strong through 4 decades of music, we welcomed his É Soul Cultura takeover for a 6 hour session at The Bowl.

Co founder of the iconic UK club Electric Chair and founder of Manchester's much loved and long standing queer party, Homoelectric, alongside his label and event series E Soul Cultura, Luke has consistently remained at the forefront of a young dynamic forward thinking scene.

From  the momentous legacy of Sheffield and Manchesters musical heritage through the 80s and 90s Luke reworked 4 decades of dance through a distinctive futuristic lens into an alchemy that traverses from  spiritual jazz, slo mo chugging cosmic soul, Balearic Bossa to dance floor astral Jazz dance to the deepest House and Techno and bass buggin futurism, Afro and black heart deep Disco.

A true musical legend with no boundaries. Listen back to his takeover.

Luke Una at The Bowl [ Live From We Out Here 2024 ]

Join us as we listen back to Jeremy Underground’s performance at We Out Here 2024 at The Grove stage.

This year we welcomed French selector, Jeremy Underground, to the festival as part of the Root Down with Love takeover, courtesy of We Out Here regulars, Miche and Rainer Trüby. As part of the takeover, Jeremy Underground threw down a 2 hour set which took us on a musical journey in the forests.

Born in 1986 in a Parisian suburb, Jeremy is a passionate record collector and music lover whose collection and knowledge of house, disco, soul, and funk surpasses his years of collecting it.

First inspired by listening to Radio Nova and Radio FG in Paris, he spent his formative teenage years in record shops with a sole idea in mind: unearthing hidden house music treasures, leaving no stone unturned.

Jeremy started “My Love Is Underground” in 2010, a vinyl-only label dedicated to his first love: the authentic, New York/New Jersey house sound.
His landmark debut compilation released in 2014 on Favorite Recordings, features Jeremy’s hand picked selection of rare & out of press house jams ranked by Resident Advisor #1 best compilation of the year, winning praise from DJ’s and collectors alike for the depth and raw quality of the selection.

Over the course of 2010’s his honesty and dedication towards music rocketed him to the forefront of international DJing, and in the early 2020’s that’s where he remains, still with the rare feature of being a DJ only and not a Musician/DJ.

This year we welcomed producer, musician, and label head, Aroop Roy to We Out Here. In his set at Love Dancin’, Aroop joined the dots between electronic music and borderless organic sounds. Listen back to his performance here!

Next up in our mix series is Alexander Nut - listen back to his performance at We Out Here 2024. His set at Rhythm Corner was a vibrant mix of soul, boogie, and house music.

As the sun set across Wimborne St Giles he began his set - Alex tells us that “spinning as the sun goes down is really something special... and the music reflects that transition.”

Next up in our Mix Series, Horse Meat Disco 🪩

A powerforce in queer club culture, Horse Meat Disco has been spinning tunes with rhythm, freedom and emotion at their heart since 2004. 

Their set at The Bowl was “a queer party for everyone”, inviting WOH into a kalaidoscopic sonic world of classics, italo disco, house, oddities and punk funk.

Telling the sonic story of two best friends’ journey with identity, Brown Excellence is a “delicate dance between sounds of skin and soul”. Their sound usually moves through leftfield UK electronic explorations layered with shimmering Hindustani melodies or Arab rhythms, but for their WOH 2025 set, they opted for a selector-style set featuring cinematic 80s Bollywood cuts, playful Arab funk & much more. It's safe to say, the energy at Roller Rink was excellent 😮‍💨

Day One WOH family, frequent collaborators, and deeply sonically intertwined, IZCO and Bakey lit up The Bowl on Friday night at WOH.

From Hackney, London, IZCO has carved out a distinct niche in the UK underground scene. Blending the sounds of UK Bass, Garage, Jungle, Grime, Broken Beat, and Reggae, his sets are both fresh and familiar. With growing recognition at home and abroad, IZCO’s rise shows no signs of slowing down.

Bakey has made a significant impact on the texture of the UK Bass scene through prolific releases on influential labels including Warehouse Project Records, Twenty Twenty London, and Time Is Now, entrenching himself as one of the UK’s most exciting producers in the new wave of Garage/Breaks aligned bass music - with a healthy dose of soul ever present.

Driven by a lifelong passion for music and community, Luke Una has been a pioneering figure in Dance Music culture. Luke remains, as ever, at the forefront of a changing scene as he goes deep into ‘astral futurism’. He tells us it was one of his favourite gigs he’s played and that the crowd day was “another level, arguably the most incredible gathering of souls anywhere. A magical moment”.
