Jasper Staal - Transit

Jasper Staal, a core artist of the DTW stable and all time video-game expert, has been quietly working on his forthcoming Ep. In between things, he managed to carve out some time and blesses us with one hell of a tune.

'Transit' defies any real categorisations, as it moves between shades of g-funk, jersey and trap sensibilities. It's also a rather lucid reflection of his versatility, and his constant quest to push the envelope. We will update with more details again for his debut Ep, but in the meantime, enjoy the frequencies of 'Transit.'

The Pure Pool project is all but completely new. Only two months old, they have but a single track out already, and it possesses a rather interesting sound. A combination of trap percussion, funk grooves, misty mountain sound design, and ’90s sitcom anthem music made by a CASIO and basic instrumental samples (e.g., that pitched basic horn synth). Their music has a future funk vibe featuring what the Pure Pool guys describe as, “sparkling chords and arpeggios and bass like a bubble…hence the name – pure pool!”

For their latest, “Puppet Castle”, the guys added a touch of childhood. It’s fun, playful, and touches upon many elements of both Pure Pool and collaborator Deech‘s usual vibe. Their second effort is right on par with their first, leading me to believe the Pure Pool guys and, subsequently, Deech are going to stand out in 2016.
