Soft Snow is a setting of the William Blake poem of the same name. The original version was written  in 2015 and later adapted for SSA choir in 2020. It was premiered on May 5th, 2023 by Héraðsdætur Women´s Choir (Drifa Sigurdardóttir, director)  in Harpa Concert Hall in Rekjavik, Iceland.

Serpent Song was composed in July of 2022 while vacationing in Kenya. The pitch material is derived from the word "rattlesnake" and is meant to depict that particular snake's mannerisms.

Chameleon Variations was composed in 2022 and is dedicated to Constance Clark. This piece depicts the changing colors of the chameleon by using a variety of techniques and timbres to create contrasting moods throughout the work.

Prologue was written for and dedicated to Icelandic cellist and poet Steinunn Arnbjörg Stefánsdóttir. A few years ago she gifted me a wonderful book of her poems, which were full of vivid imagery and wit that I just had to turn into music. In this work, I wanted to explore the tonal colors possible on the cello in order to capture the essence of the poems themselves.

Jubilation Fanfare was written to celebrate the news that I was going to be a father for the first time. It has lots of energy and bold melodic statements that exude the feeling of joy  I felt that day.

Dance Cards was written in 2024 for the Icelandic Saxophone Quartet, who premiered the work on March 9th, 2024 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The work is in three short movements:

i. Tango
II. Waltz
III. Square Dance

The title comes from a European social custom dating back to the 18th century, where upperclass women would write the names of their suitors on a card in order to remember who their various dance partners were during a gala.

 Wes Stephens' (b. 1983) award-winning compositions have been performed internationally by organizations and ensembles such as the Boston Metro Opera, Bespoke Brass, and Duo Harpverk. He holds degrees from the University of Missouri (Master of Music, 2009) and Missouri Western State University (Bachelor of Science in Music Education, 2007).
