Dark Thoughts - Quintet Of Strings

This was my submission to the SPRK MUSIC / AWFF - Film Scoring Competition

Little girl chase

The idea of using Brazilian music in a scenario that musically has already been established was my challenge here.

This scene was provided by the Spitfire DC Stargirl scoring competition. I didn’t submit my composition because at the time it happened I didn't feel I couldn't add my perspective without sounding disrespectful to the scene and jury.

Now that the competition is already over I’d like to share my way to implement Brazilian music and see how we would react to a north American scene using a south American score.

The genres used in the scores are:
1. Maracatu with a touch of samba accentuation for the Robot hero scene.
2. Classical orchestral using harmonies in a “Villa-Lobos” style for the transition to the
car scene.
3. Afro-sambas over harmonies inspired by “Garoto” on the crash scene.
4. Choro style for the lament after the boy is hit by the car.

The instrumentation chosen were a tradicional symphonic orchestra (Instruments by EW composer cloud), bass, drums, Brazilian percussion and folkloric Brazilian stringed instruments such as 7 strings nylon guitar, Cavaquinho and Bandolim.

This was an arrangement I wrote for this classic tune by Baden Powell and Vinícius De Morais. Originally it was created to be a soundtrack for a commercial.

Folky Dream - Wesley Amorim

Wesley Amorim is a talented music producer, composer, and guitarist from Brazil with a passion for a wide range of musical genres. He has established himself as a versatile and innovative musician, having worked with Brazilian, jazz, rock, pop, and gospel music. Wesley is embarking on a new path in his career as a film score and TV professional, as well as opening his own label called WA Media Solutions. He has worked on several projects, creating compelling and emotionally resonant music. Wesley is the Art and Music Director of the non-profit Triumph Life Center, composing uplifting, healing, and life-affirming lyrics. He has had the privilege of performing with notable artists such as Alcione, Cyro Baptista, Luciana Mello, Neguinho da Beija-Flor, and Jair Oliveira, and was nominated to participate on the album "Selfie" with Jair Oliveira. Wesley has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Birdland. Recently, he was announced as a Grand Prize Winner for the 2021 Lee Ritenour's Dreamcatcher guitar contest, recognizing his exceptional talent as a guitarist. He is based in Los Angeles, where he has had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented musicians and producers in the industry. Wesley's passion for music and his dedication to his craft continue to inspire audiences around the world, and he is truly a rising star in the industry.
