An endless darkness beckoned ahead, a deep void beyond that held its own gravity, pulled him ahead one paw at a time. Beneath his furry exterior, tucked in the warmth of tightly woven layers of the cotton, the fast beating of his organic heart pulsated nervously, stretching his chest stitches at the seams with its urgency in a constant rhythm. The shadows of the passage flickered in deathly silence over the uniform blackness of his glass bead eyes. Something was out there. He withdrew, sinking into the warm folds of a distant memory – being dropped by his skin companion, and the fuss that followed the soft hairless ones surrounding him with hushed cries, picking him up and dusting him off, holding him close and pressing him back into the fat pink digits of the little one as she kissed him on the eye and promised never to drop him again. The sound of tearing fabric pulled him at once back into the stark reality that faced him, as he looked down in horror at the cotton spilling from his shoulder… his arm slowly tumbling to the floor and landing with a soft and almost noiseless thud against the bleak floor. As he was still registering the beginnings of his own separation, the vast blade swung again – leaving him staggering in his new confusing balance, a furry torso on legs, wobbling unsteadily in the darkness. Then his vision fell forward, he was looking at himself… was that his armless body in front of him? How was it possible? His simple mind was reeling as his head went tumbling toward the floor, spinning as it dropped. The glint of the HELLBLADE caught his eye as his attacker stepped into the light, a hideous body of stacked limbs and rough stitches, cotton spilling out of the seams of its fur… the antithesis of innocence loomed heavily across the dying creature, the glint of his glass eyes faded as the TEDDY KILLER looked coldly upon its meaningless end.

One of Russia’s biggest drum and bass exports, TEDDY KILLERZ, return to the unstoppable EATBRAIN label in a massive way, following up their VIOLENCE EP of 2013 with their viciously modern HELLBLADE EP. Featuring 5 tracks of pure insanity, the Teddy Killerz crew surpass their original outing on the label in brutal style. A combination of dynamic breaks, powerful bass design and a clinical audio perspective with a pure annihilatory spirit delivers an impactful addition to a label that seems to have no bounds in its progression through new waves of future sonics.

If you’ve already seen our line-up for Mefjus’ album launch on 27th April, you might have noticed one name you didn’t recognise. It’s the first time Circuits will join us, but we’ve actually been pretty close to both members of the group for some time. Kasra and InsideInfo unveiled their joint project earlier on this year, something born from their mutual love of hardware and experimentation. Ahead of their debut with us at the end of the month, they sent over 'Resistor', one of the stormers that’s about to drop on their Coming Through EP via Critical.

Santoku has already dominated US waters with their take on drum & bass, setting a standard within the American scene which has also infiltrated its sounds across the Atlantic. For the label’s next release, Instinkt steps forward after becoming a renowned name on imprints such as Red Light, Kill Tomorrow, Methlab, Lifestyle, Delta 9 and more pivotal record labels which have helped to define the underground scene. The trio bring their individual skills sets together, from their hometowns in Germany and Denmark, to present a cross pollination of styles which highlights just how diverse the drum & bass genre has become since its inception. Humanon also jumps on board, with one member of Instinkt joining the Slovakian and Czech team in destroying dancefloors with their own hard lined offering on Santoku’s forthcoming ‘Not Human’ EP. With an added collaboration from Interzeptor, a brand new outfit from Vienna, it’s one of the imprint’s most versatile, European deliveries to date.

Title-track ‘Not Human’ rolls out first, bringing together Humanon and Instinkt for a cut throat exploration of both outfit’s production standards. Its snaking LFO and clashing drums bring you into its heart, showing how both sets of artists go in hard and without limitations. Instinkt comes through next with the infamous Lifesize MC, who once again offers up his growling vocals throughout the tearaway record ‘Fiend’. You’re then introduced to ‘Fiend (VIP)’, which exhumes a welcome twist on the already snapping original, moving you into deeper waters whilst also rerouting the mix and pushing you through segments of antiquated, neuro infused breakdowns.

Finally you’re drawn into ‘Squad’ from both Instinkt & Interzeptor. It continues the EP’s hard lined approach, punching quicker layer after layer before it totally envelops you in its chaotic ways. With clanking percussion and a rhythm which chops and changes between every steppy set of drums, it’s the only way to end an EP which doesn’t turn down the volume from beginning to end. And that’s what makes this addition to Santoku’s discography so memorable. It not only presents the darker side of its talented roster, but also its expansion into the drum & bass world’s every corner.
