Acoustic guitars and the accompanying percussion (pounded out softly on the back of my guitar) were recorded in Trevor's guest bedroom ("where there is no bed"). 
Sometimes things that we hold dear turn out to be nothing more than vapour. When you feel like something that was unshakeable comes loose and you're only left with a clear picture of everything you did to maintain the dream, you are feeling the way I did when I wrote MIRAGE. 
The song came to me while driving home one afternoon and as I started to sing the melody, I knew it would be special.  Many people consider MIRAGE my best song. I hope you like it as much as others have.

Mirage (acoustic)

SOMNAMBULIST started with a simple enough idea: "What if 'Sleeping Beauty' followed the rule that you don't kiss someone without permission?"
I created a space-opera vision of the fairy-tale and the song became about a person who sleepily wandered beside the chivalrous male hero who was destined to save her; the crux of my story is that the hero insisted on kissing her only once he had her permission. 
[MUSE] is an obvious influence on this song. A ZVEX 'FUZZ FACTORY' is featured prominently in the solo and it was the first and only [BLASONFRAME] track to feature my 2008 Les Paul DC (#47 of 1000).
Bryan spent countless hours working on this track because like every other band I've been in, 'Professional-Sounding Home Recording' is the myth I can capture. After Bryan tried to accommodate to all of my niggling mixing demands, I am confident that we could not get to a better place with the takes we had to work with. 

Somnambulist

I was in the shower trying to come up with something Chili Peppers influenced. 
I was seventeen or eighteen years old and began considering music as a career for the first time. TEMPTATIONS became the first song I wrote entirely on my own before bringing it to my band, and consequently Bryan suggested the title which I kept.
TEMPTATIONS was really important to me because it was the first song I wrote that people began to yell out requests for during live shows. When I was in university, it was the song people on campus associated me with. 
Bradley Nowell was an important figure for me growing up, and even though he didn't always successfully walk the line between "Living" and "Risk", he  represented both freedom and musical professionalism in my mind. I tried hard to capture the vivaciousness of his lifestyle in the song. I have SUBLIME to thank for inspiring me to write it.  

Temptations

IN THE BEGINNING was written at a low point in band member relations. I was having a hard time productively expressing that I wanted to see my friends more and play more and collaborate better. 
Instead of doing that well, I wrote a song about the frustration I was feeling. IN THE BEGINNING is significant because it was the first song I wrote that had  obvious [MUSE] influence. It started a trend that in some respects still continues today.

Detainee

I have been so fortunate my whole life. By the time I was 25 I had played some of the biggest venues in Toronto. These included Lee's Palace, the El Mocambo, and Varsity Stadium. 
I am a couple years older now and I have a pretty incredible day job as a teacher. 
I haven't stopped writing music and I won't ever give up on the dream of making you feel something when my music hits your ears.
