I'm pleased to present my take on an evolving genre that I've grown to love. These tracks started out of inspiration from discovering an album by FRENTE CUMBIERO- 

I needed to do my research, so I went back and discovered the indigenous fusion with both Afro and Latin cultures to create the instrumentation for the rhythmic backing that makes this genre so incredible. There's a notable shift that happened to the music as it was championed in Peru, with the invention of the Electric Guitar- Cumbia had a Latin surf rock sound. There's also a notable Cholombiano culture that spread through Monterrey, Mexico- a thriving counter culture that slowed old Colombian Cumbia records down to create depth and extend the records. 

As I learn more about this music and it's heritage it becomes clear i've got some work to do in representing it in the right way. 

All this to say. I love this music. It is not mine (well these tracks are but u know what I mean). I hope this can be a gateway to a new sound for you!

The Oxidized compilation series is a charity project we have been working on since the inception of The Rust Music, with Oxidized, Vol. 1 being our very first label release in February 2017. At the end of each year we select a new charity, aid organization, or non-profit, to which all proceeds from the series are donated. In the past we have donated to organizations focusing on natural disaster aid, environmental restoration and preservation, as well as civil/human rights advocates and COVID-19 relief efforts on local, national, and international levels. 2022 proceeds from the Oxidized series will be donated to support women’s rights to healthcare and access to abortion, with this year’s donation to be determined towards the end of 2023.

Across the last 6 years, we've recurrently tapped into a network of both our roster talent and our close associates across the experimental electronic music spectrum to craft our first two Oxidized compilations. Now, for the final entry in the Oxidized Trilogy, we've brought together 32 producers, songwriters, and musicians from the US, the UK, Germany and Georgia to craft 28 tracks that cross through a medley of motifs in Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, and more. Please relax and enjoy this curated selection of moods and attitudes, courtesy of The Rust Music and our extended kinfolk.

We dance to honor the dead, we dance to celebrate soul, we dance to signify struggle. We live on a spinning rock and no one knows how we got here- at least music makes sense.

Why the Argentine colors this time? While a lot of these samples are indeed from Colombia, I've never been to Argentina, and I have no business representing either countries storied history with this music... This mix is dedicated to my fallen best friend, who you guessed it- Is Argentinian.
