The Debut Album by Detroit Swindle. It has everything you would expect from the Swindles, some slow burners with a hint of disco, some deep house, some banging club monsters and hey, even some leftfield hip hop jams.

The album opens with "B.Y.O.", a track that balances nicely between the DS shuffle and an old school New York style block party. The track is a taste of things to come for the rest of the album, hinting towards a big party vibe, but mellow enough to make it a really interesting listen.

The one thing Detroit Swindle are known for best is their knack for picking the right vocals. For Boxed Out, they came up with some perfect partnerships. They recorded "64 Ways" with none other than one of America's finest soul singers: Mayer Hawthorne. Being a fan of their sound he proposed to do a track together in return for a remix on one of his album originals to be released in 2014. "64 Ways" has a lazy shuffle, a bunch of catchy rhodes chords and few well placed layers of synths that give this track a hint of "Detroit Experiment", wrapped up in an almost poppy house jam.

One of the other vocal tracks is "Thoughts of She", that effortlessly samples the voice of UK soul singer Alice Russel from the track "Pushin' on" by "The Quantic Soul Orchestra". There's also the gorgeous track "Center of Gravity" that has Berlin based, Ghanese-Canadian soul singer Sandra Amarie on vocals. It's particularly this track that reflects the true spirit of Detroit Swindle's music, a mixture of soul and UK garage meets Detroit house slowed down to a sexy groove with some of their trademark pads and stabs.

They pushed themselves to explore different tempos as well, which not only resulted on some slow house burners, but also in 2 hip hop tracks. "For the Love of..." is a homage to the old school sounds of "J. Dilla", "A tribe called Quest" and "The Pharcyde", combining off-beat shuffles, a gritty bass line and a warm cut-up soul sample. "You, Me, Here, Now" is almost a love song, disguised in a s(w)ing-a-long down tempo type of track. It's one of those "one more tune" kinda tunes.

So there's hip hop, there's soulful vocals, but It just wouldn't be a Detroit Swindle album without a few bangers on it. "Huh, What!", "Shotgun", "The Fat Rat" and "He's Just This Guy, You Know?" are all relentless dance floor monsters, pushing the tempo to match old school Chicago and New York house cuts from the late 80's and early 90's.

With these tracks "Boxed Out" has a great combination of gritty percussions, hot vocals and catchy chords and it is exactly this recipe that has become the much-loved trademark of Detroit Swindle's house universe. The album has a little bit of everything in exactly the right dose, making it both a good listen, and an extremely infectious club album.

For Pan-Pot's second release on their new imprint they fall nothing short of what you would expect from the infamous duo. 

"Grey Matter" is a stormer made especially for the intense peak time strobe lights of a dark sweaty club. The pulsing stabs and swelling bass in combination with the rolling hi-hats and shakers keep the energy flowing upward. 
Don't let the word grey in the title fool you, this track is more a burning red. Just like the deep ominous vocal says, "We're burning"!

On the flip side is "Substance“ and with this one, Pan-Pot showcase their vast knowledge of what tension can do on the dance floor. From beginning to end, it teases with builds that never quite go over the edge. Constantly increasing, it creates the desire for just a little more while never giving you the satisfaction of a resolution. 

It's a concept that only masters can make work and when it does, it's nothing short of brilliant.

Pan-Pot - Grey Matter

Bastinov (aka Diego Gennaro) is a Venice based young producer and DJ, following his last year release on Etruria Beat he is now presenting a more mature work, showing his artistic growth.

This EP, the 19th of Etruria Beat Records and the 2nd release from Bastinov , is a path into techno and in its shades, starting from punching and rolling sounds and ending up with the addition of some melodic parts. 

Beyond the original mixes the EP is enriched with remixes from label boss Luca Agnelli, newcomer talents Toms:due and Proudly People.

“Pentagon" is composed by an alternated hypnotic synth’s melody and a vibrant groove which will bring you into your deepest mental journey.

Luca Agnelli's remix of “Pentagon" is a dub-techno explosive interpretation of the groove,  spiced by a dark triplets synth and an amazing kick-dropping that will burn up the dance floors for sure!

“Theorem", was created with an amazing and pleasant chord, a devasting groove and big-punchin kick made by analogic drum machines (as the vintage Roland CR5000).

The second remix on the vinyl comes from Toms:due that moved the track down to the “Motor City’s rules”, adding a massive and dirty 909 groove and giving a special reinterpretaton of the original synth.

A special digital bonus remix comes from Proudly People , composed by their unmistakable dark and deep techno sound,  perfect for early morning djsets.

Bari-based DJ/Producer Kaiser made his career debut on Etruria Beat back in 2013 with his track "Conversation", part of the Bud Sampler (Part 1). Today he presents his first full release for Etruria, "Medusa”. 

The two originals are lead by "Save the Chord", named after the presence of some overlapping dub-chords which intersect each other to create a melody on which a well balanced groove grows. Title track "Medusa" leads with an aggressive and imposing rhythm. Perfect for the most powerful of dancefloors! 

In addition, two remixes from highly respected artists of the European techno scene. DJ Emerson , Microfon Rec. owner and CLR artist, infects "Save the Chord" with his typical sound, coming up with a powerful kick and impetuous groove. Relentless. 

Finally Matthias Fridell supplies a dark-and-mean rework with scything organ pulses that deliver a Detroit touch.

After just over a year of strictly remixes, Egbert returns with his first EP after his critically acclaimed album ‘Warm’. ‘Shake’ is a dancefloor EP with three unforgivingly powerful originals.

The release date, Jan 16th, also sees Egbert performing a 6 hour live set together with Secret Cinema @ Melkweg, AMsterdam.

2014 Was a year with many highs for Egbert. With a whopping 4 gigs at Awakenings including both days of the festival, rocking the Cave at Timewarp NL before Sven Väth, Electric Brixton in London, Flex Club Vienna, Sziget Festival and loads more amazing gigs with thousands of people going mental to his live act. 

For 2015 there are a string of strong EP’s lined up kicking off with ‘Shake’ on Gem Records. As Egbert spends most of his time playing live sets with 100% Egbert tracks around the globe, he knows exactly which ones pack the most punch. Label boss Secret Cinema who plays epic sets together with Egbert regularly, sat down and selected three of those tracks for this EP.

The record kicks off with ‘Dik Geluid’ which translates into ‘phat sound’. A stripped down repetitive  techno bomb with a hard kick and a throbbing bass effect as its main elements accompanied by spacey noises and lo-fi vocal samples that funk and echo over the top. Next up is ‘Shake’ which revolves around a bassline on every 16th note triplet that swings over the beat in a way that gives the track loads of energy and danceability. Filters are opened and decays lengthened until the bassline growls and roars with energy building up and up.   Finally there is ‘Korrelig’ which is probably one of the darkest tracks from Egbert’s sets. With scary horror movie vocals, huge delays, and a main noise that sounds evil to its core this is one bad-ass cut…

We here at Second State are thrilled to bring you our new concept entitled HUB. While most labels these days are doing various artists releases to showcase the overall talent on their label, we thought it would be better suited for both our listeners and ourselves to break the mold and bring you a series of true collaborations. Each HUB release will feature a single artist teaming up with others from the Second State family to create an EP of authentic musical compromises. "Tension' is a heavy number with just a few key elements, it's a slow lurking journey through a dark forest at night. As each bush and branch is pushed aside and every step inches closer to a destination unknown, the pressure builds. Soon, without knowing, you are in the depths of a jungle with no way back and only one decision. Keep going.

Adam Beyer is back on Drumcode with an impressive array of tracks that will get the senses tingling and shows us what Drumcode is all about. These 4 tracks are deep and almost melancholic in their approach to techno, using effects to really help enforce an ambience only Beyer can achieve within his productions. The under lying throbbing of the drums drives this EP into the forefront of the heads down Drumcode sound and have been heard in many of Beyer’s phenomenal sets throughout the year.
