In October 2016, Stien Carlier’s mom Solange passed away. Stien wrote a first song ‘Forget’ as a lullaby to comfort her mom in her final moments. Coping with this great loss, Stien noticed that writing songs worked therapeutically and almost five years later, the full album "I" is born featuring 9 songs. Each song represents a different stage or aspect of Stien's grieving process.

The name WESTHINDER originates from a lightship “West-Hinder II” that is anchored in Zeebrugge, the favorite place of Stien’s mom. Lightships used to function as beacons at high seas, like floating lighthouses.

"I" is an album about unconditional love and how all-consuming painful the loss of that kind of love is. But it’s also about the light that always finds a way back, no matter how dark the darkness can be. WESTHINDER tells a story of grief, loneliness and gratefulness, because a mom’s love is forever.
