It's not often that we're fans of mixes consisting of almost 100% of the artists own songs, but this one is definitely a keeper. This fine specimen of a mix is 27 minutes of pure David E Sugar heaven that even features snippets of his street sounds to capture the context. Its good stuff from start to finish, just the way we like it. Listen and lie awake.

"This mix is a collection of songs, field recordings and fragments of what I call 'broken tracks'. It's all based around the years that I spent living and working in my Hackney Wick studio. A strange and intense time for me. I turned up there before the Olympics and watched the area change. It was like living in a forgotten dystopia whilst the rest of the world watched every move across the river. The roof of my studio became an important place for for me and many of the field recordings were made up there; the Olympic fireworks, the wonky parties or alone writing up there."

Bait’s second VEP (Various EP) is a 4-track dive into a rather modern phenomenon: 150 dubstep, as DJs and crowds seem to be enjoying the faster bass sounds, yet broken rhythms and heavy halftime pulses. For this release, we’ve got L.A.’s rising bass-music talent Carré, who specialised in racing wobblers, and recently released her debut solo EP on her label FAW (Fast at Work). Track 2 is by UK-born Berlin-based Formella. This is the Femme Bass Mafia member’s first-ever release. The Third track is by Fast Castle label captain Gent1le $oul, also Berlin-based and pushing hybrid dubstep in the German capital with hot vinyl releases and parties. Last but not least, SPLT’s mental banger “Grill Party” that Beatrice M. happened to discover in Laksa’s Truant podcast and reached out after dropping an “ID?” comment on SoundCloud. The Lyon-based producer never misses, his tracks have been played out multiple times by Garçon and Agonis, in the continuity of merging bass and techno.

A familiar favourite, Deft, steps up with his second EP on Hooversound, featuring a VIP remix of one of his original songs taken from his 2020 ‘Burna’ EP.

Defts ‘Burna’ EP back in 2020 set the tone perfectly for Hooversound, it being the second release on the imprint following Hyroglific and Sinistarr’s almighty ‘BS6’. Deft’s hybrid artistic style of production sat perfectly within the launch of Hooversound as he went on to rise steadily within the underground electronic scene. Fast forward four years, Deft returns to Hooversound with an equally impressive follow up, entitled ‘Two Years’.

Yip Wong aka Deft has been producing music for nearly a decade. Within that time he has crafted a signature style using elements of dance, cinematic sound design, hip hop, jungle, footwork and 140. This enigmatic style of production has led him to release on 20/20 LDN, Exit, 1985 Music, Critical Music and more. His release schedule alongside his ever evolving sound has gained the attention of not only London and UK listeners, but fans worldwide.

Defts new ‘Two Years’ EP on Hooversound once again sees the talented producer drawing elements from 140, footwork and jungle, all laced with his ability to create immersive atmospheres and intricate percussion. It’s been teased across SHERELLE and NAINAs DJ sets for months, with it finally dropping to the masses this summer on Hooversound.

Cosmic Bridge's club focused 'Earthbase Series' continues with 'Nocturnal' the new release from Russian producer A.Fruit. Four tracks that fuse Footwork, Drum'n'Bass, Techno and bold sound design into the 160 BPM framework. After a heavy hitting set of releases via Russian imprint Hyperboloid, Irish modern trendsetters Rua Sound, and the ever vigilant Med School, so please welcome A.Fruit to the Cosmic Bridge roster. 

Label boss Om Unit says: "Anna has a rare ear in this 160bpm world; one foot firmly in the techier sound-design lane, and one in the world of fun dance floor sounds. Well mixed, and not too serious! It's great to have her on board and we look forward to sharing a stage soon!" 

Kicking things off is 'Make Them Shake’, a hypnotic and contorted expression of footwork with bubbling bass and drum FX - only for the boldest of dancers. ‘Polykarp’ comes complete with rugged old school hardcore chops twisted into a technoid stepper.  'Deep Insight’, is reminiscent of early Moving Shadow Jungle; hypnotic & minimalist with tight drums, glitches and jazzy late night moments. Closing track ’Before You Go’ is a breaks filled, garage-footwork workout; cheeky vocal cuts and rolling syncopated rhythms for your waistline!
