"The idea for Wind’s Gonna Blow began on a late night non stop drive from Austin to Chicago around eight years ago. I was with a different band at the time, and I was the driver for that whole stretch. Everyone was asleep in the van, everything was so quiet and dark, except for the hum of the engine and the van headlights. There was a peaceful kind of loneliness about that moment. It got me thinking about the duality of loving the life of change, movement, and consistent inconsistencies that come with living out of a van, while simultaneously longing to be home with someone you desperately miss while being gone. They’re contradicting feelings, but they are both very real in this line of work.
The lyrics came relatively quick, and I cut a demo a few weeks later, but it was stored in the archives until a couple of months ago. The song came together so easily and naturally with the Exiles. I almost think the song was waiting for the right moment to reemerge. There were some minor lyrical and musical changes, but the recording is a decent reflection of how the song originated 8 years ago."
