היה פעם מלך אשר שלח את בנו ללמוד תורה וחכמה. אחרי שהבן למד הרבה זמן, הוא חזר הביתה.

יום אחד הביא המלך אבן גדולה מאד ואמר לבנו   "קח את האבן הגדולה הזאת , ושים אותה בעליית הגג".

לא יכול היה הבן להרים את האבן הגדולה הזאת ביד. הוא הצטער מאד, שאינו יכול לעשות את מה שאבא שלו ביקש ממנו, {אינו יכול לעשות את רצונו }. 

שאל המלך את בנו:
-"האם אתה חושב,  שאני מבקש ממך להרים את האבן הגדולה בידיים ? רק רציתי לומר לך, שתיקח פטיש ,ותשבור את האבן  לחתיכות קטנות. אחר כך תוכל להרים  את אותה  ולשים אותה בעליית הגג".


שאל הבן את אביו:
"למה אתה מבקש ממני דבר זה?"  { מה המטרה ?}


אמר המלך אל בנו:
"אנחנו צריכים להתפלל מן הלב אל האלקים שנמצא למעלה בשמיים.  אבל יש לנו לב-אבן, והאבן הזאת  גדולה מאד. אי אפשר להרים לב-אבן, כי הוא כבד. צריך לקחת "פטיש" ולשבור את לב- האבן.  אחר כך קל יותר  להרים את הלב למעלה, אל האלהים בשמים."
רק לב שבור יכול להתעורר ולהתרומם.
