PROXY Records’ first transmission is a 2 x 12” compilation by Boom Generation, containing 8 sought-after tracks produced between 1991 and 1995. These cuts aged particularly well, embodying the groove of the 90s by connecting raw and euphoric vibes. Remastered from the original DAT tapes, these recordings are configured to last another 30 years.

Ever since he first stepped in the production game in 2013 with his self-released debut, Newcastle’s Junes has worked tirelessly on establishing an identifiable sound, exempt from ephemeral trends and bound to withstand the test of time. The Berlin-relocated Englishman now escapes from his home platforms Galdoors and Dote to land a round of his typically atypical dub blends and elegantly pared-down electronics on KOC.

A crisp, opium-scented bassy tech number in its own right, “Witching Hour” kicks things off to the sound of rattling darbukkahs, chirpy hats and thick volutes of Prince of Persia-extracted synths. A2 “Vessel” keeps the mystery intact with its curtains of randomly cascading chimes and bloopy signals gone astray. 

Flip it over and let the title-track “Shifting Sands” work its stealth magic on you. Whereas the original takes us on a speleological ride across mineral chambers and bottomless spectrum depths where weird machine monsters and their warped cousins reside in relative tranquility, Aarhus-based producer and Help Rec. boss Central drops the hammer with a shuffling, oneiric reshape primed for an all-organic workout in the wild.

Junes - Shifting Sands w/ Central Remix (OYSTER33 - Snippets)

Third iteration in OEW’s VA series, WITNESS03 brings over a fresh new quartet of heaters from another of its carefully curated cast of up-and-rising producers. Delving in the vaults of 90s rave, and spanning all things from atmospheric techno to spine-tingling bass, via electro, acid and further afield electronics.

Engaging first, CLJL flings a brick of breaksy sedition into the matrix with the mighty “System Research”. Fusing 303-emulated traction with jaw-crushing freq shifts, ruff snares and fluttering synth spirals gone astray, this one is pure woofer-busting material. Second in line, Naone “Silhouette” is an aggressive slice of dopey, bass-heavy cosmonautics, tailored to have the listener zoning out into a magnetic field of alien echoes, delays and reverbs.

Flip sides and here is LVCA and Sidd taking over your brainwaves with “Stranger” - a squelchy joint connecting the dots between Bochum Weltian spaciousness, pop-laced ethereality and a propulsive programming bound to astral project yourself into a whole other dimension. Last but not least, N-GYNN’s “Fire Rave” engineers a jagged and easy-going carnival of funkster machine talk, weird organic noises and sleazy boogie.

Travelling from dancefloor-geared groovers to space-ready euphoria, space•lab’s fifth EP lands with four otherworldly tracks. Kicking things off, we have the swirling atmospheres, trippy vocal samples, and broken grooves of Dylan Forbes’s ‘Resoblaster’. This is followed up by Mariiin’s ‘Restless Mind’, which journeys to the tonally darker reaches of classic prog-trance, with its spun-out synth melody and deep, driving bassline. Next up, Rambal Cochet, the artist behind space•lab’s fourth EP, makes a return with the spacious, hypnotic wormholer, ‘Mushroom Hill Zone’. Rounding things off, punchy kick drums combine with zero-gravity atmospheres for KAWAII SAN’s drifting-through-cyberspace groover, ‘Nuclear’.
