Decision fatigue is a way to describe mental overload that gets in the way of making choices and decisions.   This can come from a sustained effort in dealing and making decisions that are complex, or even just having to make decisions in a complicated context, such as shifting COVID risks and realities.  We explore research on what causes decision fatigue, warning signs, and how to reset and restore your mental bandwith.

Ben Suitt is a graduate of Boston University and the author of “Finding Resonance amid Trauma.” Dr. Suitt is the author of Narratives of Trauma and Moral Agency Among Christian Post-9/11 Veterans (Springer Nature Switzerland Publishing, 2023) and Finding Resonance Amid Trauma: Moral Injury and the Role of Religion Among Christian Post-9/11 U.S. Veterans (2021). A graduate of Boston University, Dr. Suitt’s research investigates the role of religion in the lives of U.S. military veterans as they navigate between competing identities and cultures amid the disruptive experiences of war and trauma. His current research places religion in conversation with military ethics and the use of force, moral injury, sociology of morality, and Christian moral thought. Suitt resides with his family in Franklin, TN where he teaches English at Franklin Road Academy.

A graduate of the J. Graham Brown School and the University of Louisville, Mariel is from the Algonquin Neighborhood of Louisville’s West End. A haphazard farmer, knitter, and photographer, Gardner is a member of the West Louisville Women’s Collaborative where she creates and sustains peaceful, artistic spaces.
She does this in the West End of Louisville, alongside a group of multi-racial, multi-generational women from all parts of the city. She’s traveled Kentucky collecting stories of Black land dispossession and is especially interested in the study of her ancestral home of Christian County, Kentucky.

In just four decades, bottled water has transformed from a luxury niche item into a ubiquitous consumer product, representing a $300 billion market dominated by global corporations. It sits at the convergence of a mounting ecological crisis of single-use plastic waste and climate change, a social crisis of affordable access to safe drinking water, and a struggle over the fate of public water systems.

Justin Mog from WFMP-LP Louisville, KY (Forward Radio), opens the tap for a much-needed conversation with Dr. Daniel Jaffee, author of the brand new book, "Unbottled: The Fight against Plastic Water and for Water Justice."

Unbottled examines the vibrant movements that have emerged to question the need for bottled water and challenge its growth in North America and worldwide. Drawing on extensive interviews with activists, residents, public officials, and other participants in controversies ranging from bottled water's role in unsafe tap water crises to groundwater extraction for bottling in rural communities, Dan Jaffee asks what this commodity's meteoric growth means for social inequality, sustainability, and the human right to water. Unbottled profiles campaigns to reclaim the tap and addresses the challenges of ending dependence on packaged water in places where safe water is not widely accessible. Clear and compelling, it assesses the prospects for the movements fighting plastic water and working to ensure water justice for all.

Dan Jaffee is an environmental and rural sociologist, and Associate Professor of Sociology at Portland State University. He has published a number of articles and book chapters on water commodification and on social conflicts around bottled water. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006.
