I wrote this song in the late 90's as a folk song and played on my 6-string acoustic guitar.  And in March 2018, I sat down to record the original version, and instead got inspired to COMPLETELY change the arrangement.  So, this is technically "Let's Go Sailing"...the remix.  All the lovely lyrics about family sailing the high seas together are the same.

Featuring 14 languages from around the globe, this song is loosely about the World's population taking a break from the hustle and bustle---transcending modern day worries, and returning to our primal roots...even if for only 5 days a year.  Blaze & chill.

Evergreen(Blaze and Chill)

Originally written about a brutally-neglected child, Lauren Kavanaugh, who was repeatedly sexually molested and locked in her parent's closet for the first 8 or so years of her life.  They would throw drug-riddled parties and allow grown men to enter the closet and molest her.  When she was eventually rescued, she only weighed 25lbs..  Needless to say, I literally cried when I heard her story and wrote the song days later whilst I was jamming on my Martin acoustic.  It just came out, I recorded it, and then I eventually went back tightened up some of the lyrics.   

The 1st verse and the chorus are the same as the original improvisational piece.  I eventually edited the 2nd verse---turning it into a political protest verse, and an improvisational rant about Trump to the end of the song.    

As for the original song's protagonist, when interviewed back around 2016, she had gotten decent enough therapy to learn to speak relatively well, and she even attended high school (albeit getting bullied), and had a live-in girlfriend around her same age after she graduated high school.  Sadly, by 2019, she had left her girlfriend and was living in a hotel with an adopted family who had a 14 year old daughter.  It was a recipe for disaster.  And like some victims before her succumbed to their childhood traumas, she (the victim) has sadly become the perpetrator.  So, this entire sad story has become even more sad and complex because I'm certain the emotional neglect, the lack of parental protection and safe non-sexual human contact, and severe malnutrition in the first 8 years of her life did NOT allow her brain to fully develop.  It’s a scientific fact that such neglect leads to severe mental deficiencies.  And then a family who knew her past (but likely lacked the medical knowledge of emotional and mental disabilities) let her be alone with their child.  Shouldn't someone this brutally traumatized be assigned a lifelong companion?  Is there no program for the least fortunate among us?  Hopefully, the 14-year new victim won't be left to wander through life abusing others once she if of the age of consent.  Hopefully, we aren't all monsters under our human skin. 

As for Trump, he seems to embody the human monster. And unfortunately, as of today, February 5th, 2020, he still hasn't been impeached because the bogus & corrupt GOP-led US Senate acquitted him.  So, the GOP still have no shame whatsoever, and the US is still Mother England's dysfunctional bastard child.  And like this rather absurd 80's rock-romp of a song says, "The monster is back at your door.  Don't you let him come in no more.  It's got no business here...of law, it doesn't care...'cause it's rotten to the core."  So, be aware of our worst, lowest selves folks.  Beware of the monsters inside and out our fleshy rooms...and tell them..."You Can't Come In."

Written February 2014 and recorded in April 2018, "Common Thread" speaks to the similarities of human beings more so than our differences; and to our common limitations and susceptibility to contracting and passing viruses to and from one another.  This is even more relevant than ever now---during the current Covid-19 global pandemic.  May we all remember the "Common Thread" that "sows us all together"...as we navigate our current and future challenges.

Written in January 2019...this song is a call to action...for my fellow kings, queens, and non-binaries of the new age.  More specifically, "Change Your Mind" speaks to humanity's shortcomings and limitations as well as our rather incredible ability to change our minds---creating paradigm shifts that could avert disasters and mend generational traumas.
