The Day Of Black Panther Ep” shows a lot of respect for the movement that, with strength and deaths, marked the destiny of many Afro-Americans and allowed them to obtain, at least on paper, equality between blacks and whites. This is not a condemnation but a way to remember those who were the victims and those who still fight for those rights in the world. This EP is characterized by a very dirty sound: bits and pieces of audio documents from that time and the use of analogical machines. And who’s the best to be in charge of manipulating this EP? Vakula, who in his country, Ukraine, is still experiencing a dramatic, revolutionary, situation of fighting. “You’ve Never Been To Konotop” is the title of his last collection (the title already says everything), released on “Firecracker” and considered one of the best albums of 2013!

Embracing Disco, Techno and House music in all its declinations, What Ever Not introduces now British artist Reformed Society, project started by house producer Harsh Puri as a consequence of djing and collecting records since 1998, debuting with a four track old school house EP, Optimistic Chaos coherently fitting with the Italian imprint philosophy. ‘Hope’ has that solar, yet dusty groove folding distorted rhythmics and joyful pads around an insistent lead dubby pattern and shimmering synths. ‘Optimistic Chaos’ is again smooth but lightly gloomy, until a pause intoxicates one’s body and mind filling them with inebriating ambients. ‘Incognito’ delivers a deep driving atmosphere here, featuring dogged, crisp drums together with minimalist, yet momentary cosmic motives. For the closing cut ‘Detracid’, the artist cooks up a brew of acid lines with the usual charming synths and vivid hats, building a light sense of tension fired up by the warm, heady sound scapes. Each track is similar to the last, stiffening the musical timbre of the label, confirming the producer’s strong artistic identity as a consequence.

What Ever Not is the variegated music outlet from experienced Dodi Palese and Dan Mela, Italian DJs and producers supporting, selling, playing and releasing instrumental and dance music for two decades. What Ever Not tenth record, ‘Galegos Bar / The Ritual’, sees a split release signed by Dan Mela and Marco Erroi. Label co-founder Dan Mela inaugurates a new moniker ‘Man Dela’ for ‘The Ritual’ - the original track gets remixed by Anton Zap, with whom Mela already collaborated for a digital release on his own Ethereal Sound. Flipping on the other side, Marco Erroi, head of Common Series Ltd, continues his production career with ‘XXXV Gold Fingers’ for the ‘Galegos Bar’ side – one of the many different aliases he personifies - also contributing by realizing the artwork. ‘Galegos Bar / The Ritual’ offers two sides of the same coin and we can have both things with one stroke. The common denominator is the ethnical ritual. It is fully expressed in the Man Dela side with deep and hypnotic ride out turned upside down by Anton Zap with a dynamic electronic waltz. The same item, however, is magically hidden in the XXXV Gold Fingers side, where we can find it in the form of drink beer and play cards just like in most terrible bars in South of Italy.

Dodi Palese is back with his third ep on on his label What Ever Not, co-founded with his partner and long standing friend Dan Mela. As showcased through his discography, Palese's peculiarity is surely to melt different genres and sounds together, as for productions as for dj sets, avoiding any identification to a specific music style. 'Slightly EP' confirms the aforementioned approach offering funky raids in 'Child Goes Funky', african grooves for 'Birdsong' and raw sounds in 'Slightly'.

Keeping up a high rate and high quality of release, Dan Mela and Dodi Palese’s What Ever Not label serves up a second EP of 2018, this time from the esteemed Simone Gatto with a special remix from Voiski.
Italian Gatto is now based in Lecce, South Italy, where he co-runs his OUT-ER label, which since 2010 has become synonymous with house and techno that challenges the norm. His own productions find new life in the underground, roaming between labels like Night Vision, Raw Waxes and his own Pregnant Void. Most recently he served up a two-part album, 'Heaven Inside Your Frequencies', which combined dark ambient, techno and abstract sound with his professional work as a researcher and came with a book that offered a theoretical and practical analysis of the use of sounds and frequencies. This new EP is another arresting affair that lays out Gatto’s unique and varied vision for club music across three very different tracks.
It opens with ‘No Regrets’, which pairs blissful ambient synths that lift you up into the skies with busy, bristling hi hats and gnarly bass. Thumping drums drive the whole thing along, and the interplay between coarseness and serenity is truly original. Frenchman, Dekmantel and Sheik’N’Beik Records man Vioski then brings all his scintillating techno skills to the table for a remix. It journeys deep into a cosmic night sky, with sheet metal percussion peeling off the groove as an uplifting synth brings a subtle sense of euphoria to the mix.
