‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.

Maceo Plex joins Afterlife Recordings with ‘Lonely Tribe’.
Eric Estornel, alias Maceo Plex, has become a key artist for Afterlife in recent times, playing a number shows at Afterlife Ibiza and worldwide. The collaboration now goes one step further with the release of this distinctive single. ‘Lonely Tribe’ is a festival-ready hit of epic proportions. It snakes through passages of woodwind melody and vocal samples, driven forward by typically powerful and crisp percussion. On the B-side, Fango is tapped for a remix, stripping back the original over a lean, sliding groove.

Mainacht, the latest release, sees Martin Gretschmann in playful mood - the title track skips along in a breezy, upbeat fashion, peppered with bass licks, congas and synth squiggles - an aural pick-me-up for our times. 
Ahmed locks into a groove from the start, fully utilizing Gretschmann’s knack for accentuating the space between the notes. Using only a few elements he creates a powerful moment of euphoric excitement. 
Legends of Saturn again sees the maestro exploring various bass guitar tones and patterns, creating a track 
that balances a live feel with perfectly shaped electronics. 
Completing the EP, Abrains is cut from the same cloth - a bouncy groove meets trippy effects and melodic snippets suspended in space.
