Drive(J:) - pronounced J-Drive - is a chamber band specializing in the performance of new music. Consisting of composer/performers Jason Handron (acoustic strings), John Jansen (electric strings), John Secunde (small sax and keys), and Jared Yackiw (large sax); Drive(J:) was founded at SUNY Fredonia in 2016 out of a desire to do something different. Drawing on myriad compositional and stylistic influences (Louis Andriessen to garage rock to Glenn Branca), the group approaches the classical tradition with the vitality of a rock band. Group interests include, but are not limited to, electronics, harmonics, harmonicas, the number twelve, shapes, speech, rules, and notes (but also not notes).
