Toronto-based talent Mustafa Ismaeel inaugurates Rebellion’s 2022 release schedule with the four-track EP Right Here. It marks his first output on the label and sets the tone for a highlight year ahead.

Mustafa spoke on what the release represents, stating: “This EP captures the essence and versatility of the music I play and create. Crossing multiple genres and styles, yet they all share the two main aspects of my music: groove and emotion."

The title track leads the charge, taking the form of a gently-building dance cut as glistening hats converge on sweeping kick-hat pairings. Darkest Love soon arrives, a collaborative effort between Mustafa and London-mainstay Hoomance. It warms with a gentle lucidity, as dream-like pads meld into ethereal vocal tones, before Messing Around takes its place. Four-four drum patterns cosy up next to echoing lyrical samples, paving the way for the final piece: Hindsight. Emotive and soothing, it retains an inherent club-ready feel - the perfect match for opening or closing a performance.

Based in the thriving cultural hub of Toronto, DJ and producer Mustafa Ismaeel is an artist that consistently redefines musical boundaries. Born in Iraq, growing up in India and maturing in Canada, the Deep House Toronto founder has released on several of contemporary house’s leading imprints, including Steyoyoke, Manual and Dream Cultur to name a few. Now, Right Here marks the biggest release of his career so far, showcasing him as a standout tastemaker in today’s scene.

FINNEST music presents, Around the World, a series of compilations where it shows the talent of many artists from different countries, in its first release, Panama Gems selected by Sergio Bennett and mixed by the veteran Panamanian artist Charles Bell. In the first place, Our First Time' by Glenn Gonzalez, one of the most important electronic music producers in Panama, owner of the 'Midnight Movement' label, first class deep house with an increasing progressive sound and a mix sublime, the bassline and the kick drive the track while the pads and melodies are in charge of telling the story, fantastic. As the second cut, 'Room 1993' by Rick González, a Panamanian artist who makes his world debut as a producer with FINNEST with this brutal track full of groove, with a vocal and some melodic stabs that will hymnotize you, has a sound of the 2000s fascinating, we love it too much. It is the turn of the residents, the Venezuelan DartZero75 based in Panama and a fundamental pillar of the nights on Selina's rooftop in the heart of Casco Antiguo, along with his partner Mōiqe bring us, 'Tribal Analog' a track with Afro House sounds very fresh with the essence of her country in the rhythmic base and piano melodies that transcend beyond the human ear, the drop is perfect to explode the dance floor. Very cool! The fourth track comes from one of the house artists, and an important part of the scene in the country, Gerard R, also a Venezuelan living in Panama already signed to our sister label Yet Records, presents us with 'Bam Bam', a minimal deep cut with a spectacular groove and a solid base that makes clubs with great sound equipment tremble from their foundations, the vocal stabs finish completing this great work, nice. As fifth cut, 'Hip Hip Oh' by the Colombians 'Bryan Kush' and 'Nicholls (Col)' both based in Panama, the latter being responsible for the management of the famous promoter 'Booth' in the country. With minimal sound we can fly through the effects that the guys have used on the track, the base sounds very forceful and the vocal with hip hop nuances just drives us crazy, the scratch effect is very original and different from the usual, Bravo! The last cut of the compilation is by an artist from the interior, 'Nislo Rudas' born in Panama and with a notable international career, he delights us with 'Voices', the most minimal track of the release, with nuances of the Romanian sound that makes us immerse ourselves in an unprecedented melodic atmosphere, the crunchy background is essential and the vocals give it the necessary stop to be able to explode again, the low frequencies are in their precise place and everything sounds beautiful. Brilliant. To finish we can enjoy a Dj Mix by Charles Bell, one of the best curators in the country and with the greatest weight in the scene, if you want to consolidate yourself in the city, you must have his blessing hehehe, great job friend!

On the B side duties is the brilliant Italian composer Dusty Kid, whose latest addition to the Fall From Grace roster comes at a perfect time, with his intelligent, melodic composition he takes the record into another world with slight hints of Glenn Morrison’s original motif.  Dusty Kid Dub remix is a twisted affair, with the abscence of the melodic arpeggiated layers being replaced with bubbly robotic blip crescendos and disjointed laser squeals.  On the final close of this release is the brilliant artist Morttagua.  A resident at Green Valley and a heavy touring artist in his native country of Brazil, his interpretation of ‘Hypnotism’ is strong for the big venues and loud soundscapes.  Rolling baselines and building melodic motifs stagger throughout the original ‘Hypnotism’ riff and this package has extremely gifted musicians essentially jamming and composing on top of riff after riff after riff. New from Guy J’s exceptional imprint, Lost & Found comes two original tracks from Dutch wonder, Budakid due for release on January 26th.

Signed to Einmusika, All Day I Dream and Last Night On Earth among others has helped the plucky young Berlin- based Dutchman to ascend the heights of the Progressive scene in a matter of years. Self taught and influenced by everyone from Todd Terje to Caribou means that Budakid isn’t weighed down by certain musical conformities and is free to create delicate, flowing melodica that has gained the interest of well-known media outlets such as Deep House Amsterdam, FAZE magazine and Thump.

Leading the way is ‘Memories’, an elegantly paced deep progressive number sparse in percussion but packed full of emotive nuance. The ebb and flow of twinkly arps and warming pads transport the listener far away from their troubles over a blissful six and a half minutes.

Flip over and ‘On An Empty Page’ elicits a different emotional response; no less visceral, no less powerful. Growing from meandering pads and cold sonics, it warms over the course of the track as new motifs add subtle layers of emotion.

For its second release of 2018, microcastle welcomes the mysterious Cornucopia project back to the label for a new EP. The publicity shy artist first appeared in May of 2016 when 'The Day You Got Older And Stronger' was released courtesy of Gorje Hewek & Izhevski's Shanti Moscow Radio. Shortly thereafter came his microcastle debut with 'Pursuit of the Orange Butterfly'. A lo-fi, organic and deeply musical creation that the underground fell in love with. 

2017 was met with just one release, 'Letter For Poly' which launched Lee Burridge's new Tale & Tone imprint. Sitting at #1 in Beatport's overall Top 100 the track was also aired on BBC Radio 1 by Kolsch and by year's end was considered one of 2017's best deep house tracks. Now returning to the comfortable home of microcastle, Cornucopia presents his much anticipated 'Forever Gone' artist showcase.

Spread across three tracks, ‘Forever Gone’ is a transcendent blend of music and nature, an organic methodology which Cornucopia seems so apt at crafting. Beginning with the evolving textures, exotic drums and tonal creativities of the title cut, the EP then shifts energy to the modular intensity and oriental themes of ‘Big Sky’, before ultimately melting down to the tranquil, meditative yet spiritually uplifting expedition that is ‘Epathia’. 

For those who believe that music can affect people on a deeper, universal, emotional level, this is music to treasure. This is music to hold close to your heart.

Cornucopia - Forever Gone

With their first collaborative project Artfaq and Ezequiel Arias land on Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'Babel'. Hailing from Cordoba, Nacho Ferroni and Nacho Varela make up the Artfaq production team. The Argentinean duo have found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while finding a home on Antrim's rapidly rising Or Two Strangers imprint. Similarly, upon making his debut in 2013, Cordoba resident Ezequiel Arias quickly became a favourite of the two storied DJs as well, eventually leading to releases on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Sudbeat Music and Suara. Also a member of the Replug artist roster, Ezequiel made his label debut in November of 2017 with a contribution to the 'Defined 01' collection. Now making a welcome return to the Finnish imprint, Ezequiel pairs with label debutants Artfaq for a highly anticipated EP. 

Comprised of two tracks it's the title piece 'Babel' which leads the release off.  Putting your emotional centres on high, a bed of warm beats and hip swinging rhythms set the stage for a full, driving groove. Redolent effects add an astral charm as the first act unfolds, while fragmented melodies are gently teased as the main break commences. Coming to full realization yet tastefully indistinct, it's a musical narrative for the astute connoisseur, delivering a profound emotional message before smoothly transitioning into a groovy finale. 

Rounding out the EP is the equally stunning 'Polaroid'. In crafting a smooth rolling groove, the Argentinean trio have fashioned a strong foundation, complemented with hypnotic pulses and percussive drive. Charming in design and emotive in delivery, harmonic phrases slowly engulf the framework, carrying the piece into joyous second act. As the bassline melts down, melodic motifs converge, opening up for moments of exuberant warmth and hopeful reflection, before a pulsating final act unites rhythm and groove for devastating dance floor dynamics.  It caps off a hugely successful collaborative project from three of Argentina's most highly touted artists. A meeting of music minds where the end result further cements Replug's ethos of delivering unique and exciting projects.
