In less than four years, the Deserts Hearts family has developed from an unknown SoCal entity to a burgeoning community centred around a distinct love for positive vibes and essential House &amp; Techno goodness. April 1st sees the crew throw down for their highly anticipated 2016 Spring Festival – an event, which will see a bundle of top quality artists turning up including the likes of Butch, Dance Spirit, Atish, DJ Harvey, Extrawelt, Patrice Baumel and Joyce Muniz. Ahead the party we caught up with the troop spiritual leader and Minister of Design Lee Reynolds, who, in addition to providing an exclusive sixty minute selection to whet the appetite, talked us through the festival concepts, the DH vision and exactly what they have in store for the latest edition!

I feel like so many DJs these days have been trying to go so deep with who can play the most avant garde music that it gets to the point that the dance floor is literally a bunch of people standing around talking about what a "spiritual experience" they're having. I'm sorry, but fuck that shit. Flying in models from around the world to create your party's exclusive vibe goes against everything I stand for. Real vibe comes from the heart and it comes from the love for the music and the love for one another. Trust me if anyone can have a spiritual experience on the dance floor it's me, but mine usually happen when I've got my eyes closed and I'm locked into a tight ass house groove. I don't pretend the music I play is better than anyone else's because it's not. I just want to have fun and rage with the people I love. I think this live mix from our Desert Hearts 3 Year Anniversary Festival sums it up pretty nicely!

Marbs is a co-founder of the Desert Hearts Community and a papa bear to the festival crew that has become a defining staple to the Southern California underground scene. He and Evan Casey, launched the Desert Hearts Black label in 2019, to champion music from the dark, textured techno landscape that these two have been spinning for years at the annual Desert Hearts Festival and their globally renowned parties. 

Marbs' Perspectives mix exudes a sound that floats on psychedelic currents, treading at high speeds along thick basslines and futuristic sound effects, all coming together to capture a refined techno aesthetic that burrows listeners deep into the underground.
