Premiere: Crackazat - Demucha [Heist Recordings]

'Everyone’s favourite Israeli digger is back for another round of gloriously rare edit heat on Razor-N-Tape. Tel Aviv’s Elado returns to the Brooklyn imprint for PT. 2 of his edit series with four deadly disco dancefloor weapons.  Elado has been a driving force in his home city scene, avidly collecting records for three decades and Djing for the best part of two. In 2020 he stormed the edit world where his kaleidoscopic musical palette was heard for the first time on Razor-N-Tape and Eddie C’s Red Motorbike.  He is a master manipulator in turntablism and a much-touted tastemaker, fully immersing himself in Tel Aviv’s vibrant nightlife. Armed with a custom-built rotary mixer from Condesa, he utilizes his musical instincts with rich DJ sets that see him seamlessly weave through breakbeat, electro, disco, house & lost grooves from across the globe. Other releases can be found on G.A.M.M, Barefoot Beats, Bonfido Disques, and the mighty Secret Squirrel.

 'Baila’ gets the party started with infectious flamenco chants and claps over a churning acidic groove, and ‘Disco Hummus’ rounds out the side with a bit of joyful disco cheek. On the flip, ‘Sun’ turns an unlikely cover of a classic into an Afro Disco banger, and ‘Simba’ rumbles and rolls with restraint toward a hypnotic peak of brass and vocals. If you thought the first edition had the goods, you’re in for a treat with this one. Keep on Swindling part 2 includes a new afro-tinged DS original, alongside a never-released remix of an obscure Guadeloupean record and remixes by rising star of the Detroit music scene Ash Lauryn and Rush Hour favorite Arp Frique. The Ep closes with a Dam Swindle original for the 2018 album High Life that really needs no introduction: ‘Call of the wild feat. Jungle by Night.’ It’s a track that seems to keep the dancers happy wherever we play it and hasn’t lost any of its appeal in the past four years. Back from a hot summer we are presenting you this great new release by Steve Mill who truly captures the sun and warmth in these new jams for us. The Greek born artist who lives between Berlin and Thessaloniki just released his “The Mistake EP” on Tensnake’s own True Romance label where we could already hear his soulful and groovey disco infused sound.

The opener “Love Attack” is a real “good times” tune with catchy vocal snips and a bad ass funky arpeggio bass line topped with spaced out strings and pads, this one reminds us a lot of Krystal Klear material and our own Lorenz Rhode. Saying that, we of course could not think of anyone better than him to take on this tune and drawing the inspiration to create his own super funked up version! As always all parts are played and recorded live in his Cologne studio with the same hot summer vibes on this one as well! You can find the vox version on vinyl and an instrumental as bonus digital track to get your party really started. On repeat!

“Make Me Feel” featuring the Berlin based vocalist Tee Amara has disco flavors all over it and is just an irresistible house tune, majestic and soulful. Followed by the slow and developing “Next to You” that’s steadily building towards a crescendo “heaven” gem, much in the tradition of disco edits from back in the 80’s. It reminded us a lot of our old Ben La Desh records we put out some good 10 years ago. Maybe this one is our personal fave, for sure a tune you could drop on any floor: disco, electro or house.

Get in the groove with Steve and Lorenz and let us surprise you with a truly funky, groovey and above all positive vibes only release to reminiscent the summer time. Enjoy!

People often ask why we started Soul Clap Records and I usually answer: “because we were receiving tons of unique demos by creative artists that we had to start a label.” 11 years later and that flowing faucet of incoming music is still the driving force behind the label. Sure, there is the Funk, House, Disco and multi-cultural influences in all of the music that we release, but it’s always the artists themselves who guide us. 

I will never forget the feeling of excitement when Midnight Magic (the ultimate contemporary disco band) reached out with demos for the label, a collaboration that led to incredible releases, but also a deep connection with their community of New York musicians and producers.  I still get that feeling whenever an artist that I respect or new artist brings us something fresh. It's a feeling of excitement to release the music, but more importantly, it's excitement for the endless possibilities created by building relationships with inspiring artists.

Over the years this ecosystem has also fed a mission to grow and support a local and global musical family. From the Crew Love collective that combined the vision of Soul Clap Records and Wolf + Lamb, to the Dancing On The Charles compilations that shined a light on our home town of Boston, the Italo Funk series that built a bridge with our community in Italy, and the Soul Clap Records Revue Tour, which showcased a moment when we had our deepest roots in New York City… our family continues to grow.

We’d like to acknowledge them, the artists that we have worked with over the years and who we remain deeply connected to as collaborators and friends: FSQ, Midnight Magic, Nick Monaco, Nona Hendryx, Greg Paulus, XL Middleton, Saucy Lady, Michael The Lion, Amy Douglas, Lele Sacchi, Zopelar, DJ Rocca, Funk Rimini, Zeynep Erbay, Liam Mockridge, Life On Planets, The Fitness & Pony, Chas Bronz and our fallen brothers Navid Izadi and Sa’d “The Hourchild” Ali.

A transcendent moment on the dance floor at Panorama Bar led to a total shift in his life - taking a leap of faith to leave his successful career, and hometown, moving to Berlin to make music. Amazingly, his first release was signed to the label of his dreams - Innervisions - followed by a second release with Correspondent.

Polycat is his latest single, releasing on Future Disco. The track hits you straight away with bright house chords before the booming four to the floor and sixteenth hats rattle you into the world of Ede. A percussive synth melody joins shortly before the choppy vocals complete the recipe of this disco banger with the hats wide open. More and more layers of melody and effect are added to the mix, but in true Ede fashion it stays clean and groovy. A grungy dancefloor hit describes this song best, appealing to house fans as well as disco.
