Premiere: Darlyn Vlys - Runner [Polymath]

A freeform V/A series where only the rules of groovecraft and immersivity apply, the concept is to include as many bright sonic sparks as possible into each edition. They could be rising stars, they could be veteran pioneers, they could be any level in between; either way, every artist who contributes to the ‘Numéro’ series is a kindred Correspondant spirit. They understand where the label is heading… And where your dancefloor needs to be.

‘Numero 01’ sets the scene as high levels of interstellar drama persist in all directions from a whole troupe of new friends; Damon Jee’s evocative cinematic ‘Ride Alone’ instantly sucks us into the narrative and it’s followed by a whole chain of singular chapters; EDE’s spellbinding choral fusion ‘Ensemble’, Jenia Tarsol & Jinga’s endlessly rising sci-fi funk odyssey ‘Hold Your Pony’, Joris Biesmans’ cathedral like progression session ‘Helene’ and the genuinely grand finale ‘Jupiter Express’. Courtesy of Speaking Minds & Amarcord, it’s stately, cosmic and aided with a touch of Italo magic. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting conclusion to the EP… Or a more alluring way to leave us hanging for ‘Numéro 02’. Long may this fresh journey continue…

Damon Jee - Ride Alone [Correspondant]

Italian producer Dino Lenny is the Fine Human Records label head who has been making music since the 90s. He's remixed huge names like Missy Elliott and Timbaland and has been collaborating with everyone from Madonna to Wu Tang Clan to Seth Troxler & Dixon. He has been named "A wizard of electronic music" by the Chemical Brothers, played live with Underworld, released music on the likes of Innervisions, Diynamic & Correspondant, and is currently signed to Ellum. 

For his debut release on Roam Recordings Lenny delivers a stunning EP titled 'Tokyo'. The original mix showcases Lenny's original vocals woven into a dance balad that could easily fit into a classic set of 80s electronica. The Black Mami remix strips down the original vocal with a hypnotic rendition beating with pulsating arpeggios. Long time Roam alumni Damon Jee returns to deliver a huge remix that elegantly bangs out the original melodies and stylish electronics of the original.

Duro's four-year anniversary celebrations continue into 2020 with the second part of their 'Muy Duro' VA release.

Celebrating every explorative sound, feeling and experience the Mexican label has become synonymous with over its short but impactful life so far; across these five tracks the label takes us down a maze of musical rabbit holes. Each one coming from a new friend of the label hailing from Berlin to Buenos Aires, each one designed to suck you right into the groove, each one capturing the essence of what Duro stands for.

Opening duties are taken care of by Fausto. Here the Mexican artist sets the scene with a cosmic voyage. Deep chugs and rippling guitars, 'Rumble' starts us off as we mean to go on. It's followed by Darlyn Vlys' equally mesmerising 'Wuzu'. Big reverbed drums and vivid calls of the wild, it's swampy, intense trip into the rain forests. With no clear way home.

Elsewhere Jepe's 'Rosmarin' takes a darker, heads-down approach with its rumbling acid and switched-up kicks while MORDISCO takes the tempo right down and deftly weaves his Latin roots into a hunched-back, ever-mutating creeper 'Sacromonte'. Last but never ever least, Argentinian duo Carisma live up to their name once again with the heavyweight 'Otro Planeta'. Heavy, moody, spiky and laced with iron kicks and a superb elastic bassline, it's the perfect conclusion to another powerful collection from Duro.

Here's to a new year and a new decade. Duro are only just warming up.

Öona Dahl delivers her debut EP on Watergate, continuing her fruitful partnership with Dance Spirit along the way.

Last year’s memorable WhoMadeWho compilation saw Öona Dahl drop her first musical contribution on Watergate, collaborating with Dance Spirit for ‘Break The Stillness’, one of the highlights of the mix. The New York producer, DJ and sound designer, has cultivated a curious and evocative sound going back almost a decade, releasing quality cuts on Anjunadeep, Hallucienda (home to her 2017 album ‘Hollograma’) and All Day I Dream, where she has become a regular at Lee Burridge’s iconic party series.

‘Godtripper’ is a transcendental trip through psychedelic house tones, elevated by Dahl’s own breathy vocal and subtle swells of acid and a smooth melody line. Patrice Bäumel adds a delicious re-work built around a superb bass melody that builds to a crescendo, as layer-upon-layer reveals itself throughout. Dahl links with Dance Spirit for ‘Manic Space’, led by a delicate layer of tribal drums and a meandering melody line, crafted for sundown moments. ‘Universe Within You’ is one for the after hours, wrapped in a minimal shell it unfurls gradually into a glowing late morning house gem, resplendent in golden synths and groovy drums.

Dust & Blood es un nuevo sello de Damon Jee, un productor que lleva la música electrónica de baile hacia nuevas y emocionantes direcciones. Para el primer lanzamiento, da la bienvenida a su buen amigo Darlyn Vlys, quien ofrece tres producciones devastadoras con un remix del creciente productor de Kompakt, Paulor.

La voz de Northen Lite hace un llamado a las armas en 'Pacemaker'. Esta enorme bomba en forma de música electronica, es un hit que entra directamente para reventar estadísticas y llevar al clubber a un nuevo estado de nirvana. Melodías progresivas, bajos sólidos y abrasadores se dan cita en este track, sin duda uno de los esenciales de 2020. 

El productor mexicano Paulor agrega un poco de suciedad a su remix de 'Pacemaker'. Gruesos riffs de guitarra y el bajo potente hacen de este remix una experiencia sexy en pista.
