BR011 Devoteex - Narcotism EP 

The Italian duo Devoteex put together four original and powerful tracks to create the 'Narcotism EP', eleventh release of Black Rose Recordings.
The EP starts off with 'Balena', characterized by deep melodic progressions of resonant pads and drums that grow up to the drop. Here the song explode and is highlighted by a beautifully evolving synth line throughout.
Next is the track 'Proximus'. a beautiful combination of industrial sounds, strong melodies and hypnotic drums. It takes you on a journey and keeps your ear hooked.
The third piece of music is 'Green Hornet' and is probably the toughest track on the EP. The strong rhythm part of the track is combined with a deep and dark sound design and the overall result is a very pulsating piece.
Rounding out the EP is Devoteex's latest original offering, 'Esperanza'. Rhythmically lively, the track is the perfect balance of fiery percussion and kaleidoscopic synths. The heavy baseline pulls the track together and puts an appropriate and emotional conclusion to the EP.

"Lapdub" rolls forward like a little gnome riding his hydraulic mushroom lowrider through the forrest ,on his way to meet the love of his life, a fairy godmother. And when they meet, magic ensues. Floating synths are carried by a heavy, purring bassline, while soft percussions tickle your senses like little butterflies on the move. It is a masterpiece illustrating Cascandy's characteristic less is more approach, where on point sound design playfully teases you into the break that us filled with energy, and the synth getting room to tear all walls around it down. Illusory feeling that external things are rotating or moving around one or that it is oneself that is circling in space; it is due to an alteration of the organs of the ear that regulate the balance of the central nervous system.

But sometimes, many times in fact, not even the words are close to describe the music I feel, ‘Vertigo’ is a track which you can feel in many different ways, depending on how you are at any given time, so better let’s forget about definitions and do this: close your eyes and dance!

Having contributed the excellent ‘Mauna Loa’ to John Digweed’s landmark ‘Bedrock XX’ compilation, Hannes Bieger now returns with his dynamic debut EP for the label. As one of Europe’s most in-demand mixing engineers Hannes has built an untouchable reputation, with an exhaustive client list that includes some of the biggest names in contemporary house and techno. In 2017, after 11 years in the world of mixing and mastering, Hannes decided to shine a spotlight on his creative talents as an artist, emboldened by years of experience, a renewed zest for production and a lifelong romance with electronic music. 

Since then, Hannes has focused his energy on producing his own music and building an unforgettable live show. A debut EP and follow-up for Steve Bug’s Poker Flat, releases for Audiofly’s Flying Circus, Alex Niggemann’s Aeon, and a remix for Monkey Safari, alongside his ‘Bedrock XX’ contribution, have seen this masterful German artist rapidly recognised as a talent that cannot be ignored. Now, his four-track ‘Stars EP’ raises the creative bar ever higher.

The title track is a wistful, pensive vocal trip showcasing the amazing Juan Hansen from Buenos Aires, whose soothing voice is the perfect juxtaposition to Hannes’ drama-tinged composition. The past couple of years have seen this supremely talented, trained composer/musician/vocalist, rapidly becoming legendary in the clubs of Argentina, guided by an exemplary ethos of mixing genres without prejudice – if you haven’t already, check Juan’s recent ‘Kobalt EP’ collaboration (BEDDIGI124). ‘Stars’ is a masterclass in subtle genius with a distinct emotive edge, swirling with delicious energy and teasing acidic motifs. It also comes in an equally engrossing, stripped-back ‘Dub’ version for those less vocally inclined.

‘Scoria’ is a pacey, sinister cut with contagious energy and unsettling atmospherics, further highlighting Hannes’ deft creative skills. The track’s dancefloor-driven attitude and complimentary brooding arrangement results in an entirely distinctive individualistic take on the techno blueprint. The highly hypnotic ‘Titan’ is a gloriously jittery ride, featuring layers of spine-tingling electronic wizardry over an infectious percussive groove – a perfect finale to an exceptional EP.

Ae:ther releases the stunning single We’ll Be Together, taken from his 2019 debut album on Crosstown Rebels titled Me. Also featured is an exclusive new track and vibrant remixes from Moscoman and Francesco Mami.

On We’ll Be Together a unifying atmosphere is created with intense energy as intricate melodies weave in and out of an introspective vocal, locked to the groove. Blue Lagoon is a glorious subaquatic soundscape crafted by Ae:ther’s trademark celestial synths and taut percussion. Disco Halal boss Moscoman brings his unpredictable and alternative style to the first remix of We’ll Be Together with retro keys and dreamy pads. Finally, Francesco Mami turns in an uplifting house rework, adding infectious rhythm that will work wonders on the dancefloor.

Born and raised in Rome, with German DNA, Ae:ther is an artist who has established his pedigree as a formidable producer and selector. Following six years in London maturing as an artist, producing at Fortress Studios in Old Street and befriending neighbours such as Bicep, he moved to Berlin. Joining like-minded collaborators Mind Against and Tale of Us, Ae:ther immersed himself in the City's scene. After releasing dazzling EPs on Afterlife, his sound of deep emotion and expert audio design came to the attention of Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus, who signed the debut album Me unequivocally. At the birth of electronic music, its visionary pioneers wanted to soundtrack the future, now that future is here it’s artists like Ae:ther who take up the mantle and guide us into the unknown.
