When J-Zone heard The Twintones (Cornish twins from Nanpean, who recorded an LP in the early 70s, aged 11), he dug it, asking "why didn't you play me this before?" and comparing the organ sound to Mobb Deep. Amazing. I left him the vinyl, and he came back with this. Even rougher than Nanpean.

I went to J-Zone's studio in Queens with a stack of old Cornish vinyl I'd dug up from car-boot sales and local markets, to see if he could convert this decidedly 'unhip-hop' source material into a neck-snapper. He picked out Stern Old Bachelor, a folk ballad by John the Fish, and went to work.

When I started collecting Cornish LPs, Dren Throwdown, my mate in Camborne, said he'd already been and done the same thing. Then he revealed his copy of The Twintones, which I wound up donating to J-Zone's crates. We both heard the hip-hop potential in this male-voice choir version of Bridge Over Troubled Water (yep). Dren had the chops to do something with it.

I met Sean in a coffee shop in Brighton. He then came and watched a preview of my show in my backyard. BECAUSE THAT'S HOW WE DO THINGS. That's when he revealed he made beats, and he quite fancied having a go at the Cornish records. He came round to sample them, and came up with this...

Where My Folk To? is a 2014 Edinburgh Fringe show by Dave Waller, about hip-hop, Cornwall, and how to make the various pieces of your life fit. It's a story built around old vinyl, travel, and the odd things that happen once we start adopting hip-hop principles in our daily lives.

The music here is a growing collection of tracks by beatmakers either featured in the show, or those who've come to see the show and wanted to get involved.
