система | system presents "Anatomy of a headshot" release by Oron-la-Ville-based artist Elias.
~ "My name is Elias Pichler and I have been making music since my childhood. Starting with jazz piano at 6. Later around 16 I started playing around with electronic music instruments and started mixing and producing tracks. In this context I was also a member of a crew based in Lausanne that organized free parties for 6 years now. With the pandemic, I could focus on production and other musical projects. I also have a live show jazz project.
In this EP, I tried to use experimental textures and drums with more melodic samples and rather clean pads. The result is something somewhat bizarre and slightly disturbing while remaining within reach of anyone. I took inspiration from the artist that made my cover and with which I have the chance to work with for a few months. This EP is about this girl I met when I least expected it. She blew my mind and changed my view on art and many aspects of life. This is why I called this EP "Anatomy of a headshot".
All these tracks were produced exclusively using an Analog rhythm, an Octatrack, a ProphetX, a Nord electro 2, a Sherman filterbank and finally a Jomox T-resonator MKII. All tracks are live takes and are presented as is expect for "anatomy of a headshot" where I post produced it using Audacity.
The new thing in this EP is the way I processed and sequenced the drums. I left a lot of room to random textures as I was looking for a way to mix beauty and ugliness in a single track. I started with the weird and ugly, letting the textures and drums go wild and added the fresh pads and clean melodies afterwards." ~ Elias Pichler

The last mixtape of this year was recorded for us by Nastya Vogan — producer, composer, DJ and resident of the Kiev club ∄. She has a series of Leisure techno parties, releases on Not Not Fun and @standard-deviation. Nastya also writes music for the shows of Ukrainian designers, she is a tutor and partner at the electronic music school @module_exchange. In February, Nastya independently released the EP Uglydelicatessen.

In the mix, you can hear that during her residency Nastya learned how to feel the emotions of the crowd like no one else (even Laurent Garnier would envy her in this) — she perfectly understands which music is better for this or that moment: it could be techno remixes for pop hits of the Y2K era or weightless trance music.

A side opens up with 'My unknown friend' by the charming Diana Berti, a blue starry-eyed minimal synth jam, followed up by Mayo’s slo-mo acid affair 'SloMos'. A3 is 'Miss your stupid face', a crunchy, metallic downbeat cut by SYNTETYK boss Dzuma, and what a better way to follow such delight than a snake charming rollercoaster by Exhausted Modern? Closing up the first side is 'Same shit fail (shame)', a mesmerizing slow tempo deep track by Lyon’s Big Science head honcho Warzou. Flip side is unwrapped by 'Weaklink' a Lliasons Dangerousesque floorfiller from Lost Soul Enterprises boss R Gamble, while 'Alpha' on B2 marks the return of Bianco Negativo on their label with a dreamy minimal synth // ambient techno hybrid.
