I'm not sure I realised it at the time, but with a bit of distance I now realise that the Marchpane EP is about life - or the life cycle maybe. I think as I head towards a particular age milestone, and other significant life events take place around me (some welcome, some not so) I have been thinking and taking stock more and more. This has inevitably bled into my work. Marchpane then, is one of the most (obviously) emotional and personal things I have done, I hope you can tune into that.

Lectric Trolls has existed in various forms since the early 00s, though it had a different (and not very marketable) name then. Off the top of my head I have counted 6 different versions, not counting remixes by other artists. There's a reason for that - I love the tune, and the tune is at the core of this fresh take. It was made using an old Siel Opera 6 (one for the gear nerds), a synth I loved and was at the core of my setup until it died a death a few years ago. It had such a unique quality - slightly wan and watery, and you will find it in many of my tracks. Here though it is front and centre, recorded on good ole fashioned cassette tape. As usual, there are other bits in here sampled from various moments in my life, but that's a story for another day..

This is a 'no-vocal' version of the original Empyrean track - an all ambient zone of washes and cosmic melody. Its the 2nd track on this single, and acts as part of a precursor to the forthcoming 6 track Empyrean EP. This is an exclusive track which will not on the bigger release.

Noisy, lumbering beat and bass are centre stage in this oddly nostalgic track. The tinkly synth line is from a college film from many years ago and reflects the source materials multi generational tape origins.

Deep and dubby chunk of dark electronica. This very personal track draws on an archive of old tapes and answer phone messages from my Nan to add a crusty, soulful atmosphere.

Cognitive Fuck

I'm a UK based producer, making dark, broken, ambient and electronic music. I often use samples of old tapes made by relatives in the distant past or crusty old answer machine messages to add texture, human energy and ambience.
