A SHAMANS PRAYER

With watery-filled eyes fall tears of joy, I realize I am a Dené medicine person who is a young man born with his heart in Alberta but his roots from the south slave region of the Northwest Territories.
This is my story.

My people use medicine powers from the animals that sustained their way of life for over a millennium.

I am proud to be Deninu K'ue First Nation.

I thank the Raven for showing me even in the dark there are the deepest of colors and that the mind is a great ally and foe.

I thank the earthly Caribou for keeping my fires sheltered and my soul strong.

I thank the Fish friends for the medicine to be flexible enough to rise against the current of the emotional waters that I face daily.

I thank the airy Hummingbird for its freeway of living light existence searching for the kindness of a sweet life.

I respect brother Owl for he gives me the ability of foresight in my dreams at night.

Yes, even Snake for her struggling along the ground on her belly; I thank her cunning lessons and servitude to emancipate while during the hunt we call life.

I thank all peoples for the endurance and resilience to be strong and gentle even though we are bombarded through malice greed hate envy and the fear. 
We face them daily, Thank you, Friends and family. 
Brothers and sisters. Do not fight.

The world is ours to hold close with Grace.

I am proud that I am a young Dené Medicine person resilient and imaginative enough to be able to show others how I Thank myself.

I love myself for staying true to who I am and I accept myself regardless of the trials that I will face having faced and need to face.
