Act I – A Violet Tremor
A hemisphere of bruised dusk hung over the Perseid Maelstrom when Astra “Flicker” Vann eased her rust-red freighter, The Violet Bones, away from a derelict fueling cradle. Her manifest declared “pharmaceutical spores,” but the crates thrumming beneath the deck plates contained sun-dust—crystalline motes able to loosen the screws of reality for any mind reckless enough to breathe them. Each grain vibrated at an ultrasonic frequency that, if you pressed your ear to the hull, sounded like the purr of a panther made from static.

Three runs, Flicker reminded herself. Three perfect drops, then a new identity, a new face grown in a skin-forge, and a cabin on some back-spiral moon where no marshal could bother her. But the third run was always the jagged one—the statisticians of fortune called it the hinge, the pivot between luck and legend.

The Bones pushed through the outer veil of the maelstrom, her drives carving violet scars across the star-litter. When Flicker engaged First-Fold, the cosmos flexed like a mirror bent by invisible thumbs. Time became syrupy; the nav-clock dripped seconds that stretched into elastic ribbons. Nebulae smeared into neon tunnels whose walls pulsed with unfamiliar colors—greens that tasted of saltwater nostalgia; oranges that smelled like old vinyl records. Flicker felt the cadence of the run settle at a heartbeat of 144 pulses-per-minute—fast enough to outrun a warrant, slow enough that disaster could still keep up.

A single thought flickered across her retinal HUD: Deliver before destabilisation. Sun-dust grew temperamental if confined too long; the resonance built until the laws of physics began to itch.

Act II – The Gravity Reef
Thirteen light-minutes into the fold, alarms lit the cockpit like carnival ghosts. A gravity reef—uncharted, crystalline, impossible—loomed dead ahead, its facets scattering gravimetric lens-flares that bent whole star systems into origami swans. The Bones bucked as though some colossal hand clenched her mid-section. Bulkhead rivets shrieked; plasma conduits hiccupped showers of turquoise sparks.

Flicker rerouted power from life support, thinning the air to paper; every breath now rasped with freezer-burn. A spiral of frost crystals formed around her lips and drifted away, chiming like distant wind chimes before sublimating into nothing. Fingers flying across controls, she traced a jagged vector that skimmed the reef’s edge. The hull screamed—but held.

Then silence. In that hush, bioluminescent plankton, stolen from some drowned exoplanet, seeped through microscopic fractures in the cargo tanks. They drifted through the bridge, casting aquamarine halos around the gauges. One flake landed on Flicker’s wrist; her pulse beat through it, turning the speck into a tiny lighthouse, guiding her deeper into the unknown.

Every time I listen to 'Sweet Disposition' I flashback to my childhood. The record has continued to be one of those timeless tracks I keep coming back to time and time again. I wanted to make a remix that allowed me to share it when playing live on the road or at festivals, but teases just enough of the original track to remain recognizable and bring back the original nostalgia. My friends LZRD helped to put bring a harder, unique sound to the concept, we finished it all off together and I’m super happy with how it turned out! -Ed
