Cheeky Sneakers celebrates its grand opening in style as Denham Audio bring in a few friends for a masterclass in breakbeat-rooted club music.

Opening track Single Minded, featuring the prolific Coco Bryce is a playful take on classic house tropes with a dark, ravey twist while the raw, stripped-out roller So Good, produced with fellow Club Glow affiliate Mani Festo nods back to the original jungle sound.

On the flip, another CLub Glow affiliate enters the fray as LMajor assists on the cascading warehouse firecracker Down On Me while rising Japanese producer Kazuho joins to help close proceedings on the hyperactive Love Addiction.

Your resident Dubplate Service Provider is back with the second round on ec2a’s 12” series, Original Pirate Material. 

The follow up from the impressive sellout VA is surprisingly the first full EP to come curated by the Dr and who better to kick things off than the great Dane @mainphase001 - FWD Thinking Vol.2 is a no holds barred nod to the UK’s rich history in underground bass music. OG Label don Main Phase provides two signature Ragga 2-Stepers on the A with ‘Note To Society’ and ‘Run Dancehall’ - Heavy low end providing the bass layer and skips for the top shelf vocal samples. 
On the flip we have two versions of title track FWD Thinking. Subtle grime keys burst through your tweeter on the 2001 version, whilst the 2006 rendition has Dubstep Warz written all over it - a seamless transition from that early noughties dark garage into straight up 140 of years later. Full circle flex.

MP rounds things off with Live & Direct, an up front Jungle juggernaut that screams skanking! Let’s hope that by the time this ones ready, we’re back in the dance doing just that…

Cal Newport's clearly-written manifesto flies in the face of conventional wisdom by suggesting that it should be a  person's talent and skill - and not necessarily their passion - that determines their career path. 

Newport, who graduated from  Dartmouth College (Phi Beta Kappa) and earned a PhD. from MIT, contends  that trying to find what drives us, instead of focusing on areas in  which we naturally excel, is ultimately harmful and frustrating to job seekers.

The title is a direct quote from comedian Steve Martin who, when once asked why he was successful in his career, immediately  replied: "Be so good they can't ignore you" and that's the main basis  for Newport's book. Skill and ability trump passion. 

Inspired by  former Apple CEO Steve Jobs' famous Stanford University commencement  speech in which Jobs urges idealistic grads to chase their dreams, Newport takes issue with that advice, claiming that not only is this advice Pollyannish, but that Jobs himself never followed his own advice.

From  there, Newport presents compelling scientific and contemporary case  study evidence that the key to one's career success is to find out what  you do well, where you have built up your 'career capital,' and then to  put all of your efforts into that direction.

Stones Taro joins the Yam roster with four heaters designed to demolish the dance floor. Taking inspiration from UKG, jungle, breaks and house, this release brings the quintessential sounds of rave culture into 2020 showcasing the Kyoto- based producer’s ability to regenerate the genres that define UK clubland.

We premiere the A1 and title track 'Word Rush', which - predominantly - sits on the UKG side of this spectrum spanning record, whilst occasionally shimmying into breaksy and rave-esque territories. Every now and again, the track snaps back into its original garage focused form, then quickly dispersing into its various dancefloor hues. One for the club IRL - but just as good to transport you there, virtually.

PREMIERE: Stones Taro - Word Rush [YAM Records]

The phone had been ringing off the hook all morning, each time he chose to ignore it. He'd debated unplugging it at the mains but the repercussions would be even worse than they already were. He knew that not answering wouldn't help him in the long run, but right now he couldn't face it. He would continue to live by the notion that what he didn't know couldn't hurt him.

Manchester party Off Beat make their first steps into the label world, launching a new platform to share their love of UK bass culture. For the inaugural outing, they've enlisted the talents of Breaka who's previous releases for Desert Sound Colony's Holding Hands, his own Breaka Recordings and Leeds' Stretchy Dance Supply have caused quite a stir since 2018. Titled The Startup, the two-tracker moves from UK bass grooves and warm subs on the A Side to jungle-inspired breaks on the flip; a perfect indicator of what we can expect from the newly-founded imprint in future.
