16 years ago in basements and bedroom studio’s in south London, a new sound was born….
Mala was part of the music revolution which came to be known as ‘dubstep'.

DMZ, the label was created and 1 year later a bi-monthly event at Brixton’s Mass began.
Both label and event became pillars of the dubstep scene.
A scene built on dub-plates and vinyl only productions. played on heavyweight sound systems.

16 years later, Mala has decided to re-issue his back catalogue digitally for the 1st time.

All tracks have been re-mastered by the original engineer: Jason @ Transition Mastering, and still sound as heavy, warm & timeless as the initial vinyl only releases.

recycling the same idea, and the intrinsic mechanism of reality 
that "what begins, must end" 
and somehow, eventually we accept this. 
Our affinity for being and our apprehension for nonentity 
It gives us our purpose, and we take it indefinitely. 
They give us desire, and we fill it with everything. 
All that you have, has been given to you. 
and you gave yourself all of it. 
In this particular case, giving is 'receiving' 
because you can take as much as you want. 
but the more you take, the more you give away 
and you give it all. 
every last bit.

“For as long as I can remember, I've had a strong fascination/obsession with Japan – the culture, history, people, technology. Japanese toys, cartoons, and fashion have contributed greatly to my compulsive collecting problem over the years. It's always been a dream to visit, and in 2014, that dream came true.

I knew I wanted to create the 'Tokyo EP' as soon as the flight was booked. It was a personal challenge to myself to create a concept EP with a simple set of rules: Collect as many sounds in Japan as possible, and create Dubstep using those sounds. I wanted to bring as much of Japan back home with me as I could. I bought countless CDs, vinyl records, soundtracks, and anime. I captured 24-bit WAV recordings on trains, in parks, in taxis, restaurants, at live shows. I bought movies. I had hours and hours of audio to listen through when I returned home, and after a month or two of sorting and sampling, there were enough sounds to begin work.

Japan is the most amazing place I've ever visited in my life. I can't wait to go back. This EP is the embodiment of my experience – the places I visited; the things I love. Thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy the 'Tokyo EP' as much as I enjoyed creating it. Big up”
