This was the ignition of The Revenge of Heads on Fire, the complete realization of an idea started fifteen years ago by NYC’s avant-garde rock mavericks WHITE HILLS. On this double record, the band unites the concept album movement of Dark Side of the Moon with the esoteric, metal edge of early Sabbath. From prelude “The Instrumental Head” to the closing punk blaze of “Eternity”, the album ebbs and flows, smoldering and seething in the middle with the 21- minute mammoth opus “Don’t Be Afraid”.   

WHITE HILLS’ 2007 release Heads on Fire was a tight, abridged version of the album from extensive recording sessions with drummer/engineer Bob Bellomo at his studio in Passaic, NJ. After a meeting in London with Rocket Recordings, Dave W (guitar/synths/vocals) and Ego Sensation (bass/vocals) returned to the studio hell-bent on finishing an album quickly. Tempers flared; fueled by power struggles, personality clashes and copious amounts of drug ingestion, leaving many songs lost in time and ultimately the detonation of the trio.

Alchemists of genre, WHITE HILLS’ canon morphs defiantly between the sounds of psych, metal, post-punk, krautrock and industrial. Over the course of 12 albums, their songwriting has been stoked by one compulsion: the insatiable hunger for HEAVY: heavy in volume, tone, texture and soul. Lyrically oblique, their storytelling skills come in the form of energy, frequency and vibration. As Nikola Tesla said, these are the tools that lead you “to find the secrets of the universe”- simultaneously mystical and tangible.
