Aaron MartinA Pulse Passes is the first collaborative recording between Martin and Young. This project was dreamt up while Martin was on tour with Young's project Sontag Shogun in April 2014, as a meeting place between the lush ambient layerings of cello, guitar and tape-collage textures, and conceived in the months to follow. Each piece begins with a tape-loop cut from short piano compositions by Young, and is then augmented brick by brick in fluid, stream-of-consciousness instrumental improvisations. The four repeating tape splices never quite retreat too far from the foreground, and as the textures become more and more lush, the loops seem to change their definition, adapting endlessly to the sonics around them. Minimal electronic treatment serves only as a binding element here, yet it is the raw and untampered integrity of the instrumentals that sits at the core of this collaboration. 

These four works are true meditations on a theme, laid down onto and anchored by the tape. Let this album pass over you like cirrus clouds on their way inland, or underneath you like a woodland stream.

Artist statement

A few years ago I took a road trip with my 80-year old uncle through parts of the American southwest. We drove to Moab, where the sunset turned the canyon walls orange in the early evening, and after midnight, passing puffy clouds still showed through the the navy blue sky. In the morning, the promontories seemed brilliant bleached in sunlight, and the view from above the canyon was completely silent save for the wind, and birds occasionally flying past. In the Needles district, the centuries-old petroglyphs were mixed with graffiti. Spraypaint cans lying half-submerged rusted in the sand below. We drove through the back roads of the La Sal Mountains, and down across the windswept grey Colorado plateau. 

Past the expanses of Monument Valley, on the outskirts of Kayenta, rainstorms loomed in the distance as teenage hitchhikers dotted the roadsides, along which were makeshift souvenir shops, alone like fireworks stands after a passed holiday. Climbing out of the desert, we passed through Aspen, through the ski resorts and celebrity mansions, where the average annual household income is $69,000, compared to $21,000 in Kayenta. The next day, our drive ended the next day near Ouray, the fog rolling over the evergreen-lined roads. 

Several years later, after leaving California, I made a collection of tracks made with an electric piano and a wooden flute. Two tracks were copied onto two sun-baked cassette tapes I had found on the dashboard of a car, and the other two from a warped 12" test pressing for a cancelled release. Revisiting these pieces after living in Japan for several years, they instantly reminded me of the trip, and what I left behind in the United States. The tapes fluttered and stuck, drenched in hiss and grime. The record skipped, wavered, and dropped in and out. Yet with these imperfections, it completely reflected my memory of the places, and what they represented. The tracks had inherited their format-specific effects. There are sides to everything, whether it causes you to make a choice or not.

Inspired by a small statue of Buddha in the hatakeyama's house neighboring temple, “Magical Imaginary Child“ is the first collaborative recording between Hatakeyama and Durand. Sourced from only an electric guitar (Chihei Hatakeyama) and cassette tape (Federico Durand).this album recorded on March 2014 in hatakeyama's house during Federico Durand Japan tour.These four works are true meditations and poetic sounds.

Federico Durand 

Federico is a sound artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since his highly acclaimed 1st album on SPEKK (2010), he has been constantly delivering new materials from Home Normal, Own Records and Desire Path label, most of them sold out quickly. He also released album as Melodia (collaboration with Tomoyoshi Date from Optiope) and Every Hidden Color (collaboration with Nicholas Szczepanik). He uses a lot of fieled recordings which he took in his daily life mixing with guitar, cassette, and the overall impression is always warm and organic just as his personality.

Obscured By Beams Of Sorrow is the first collaborative recording between Hakobune and Dirk Serries. 
minimalistic electric guitar drone sound melody is pulling the listener into imaginary drone world.
this record has atmosphere of a deep bamboo forest with no sense of reality, such as wander.

Vidna Obmanaとして80年代より活動するDirk SerriesとHakobuneによる初のコラボレーションアルバム。
Dirk Serries長い活動歴の中でLow, Mono, My Bloody Valentineといったアーティストのサポートアクトなどもつとめ、
現在はフリージャズと即興のためのレーベルを運営している。ギター・ドローンを基軸としたアンビエントなスタイルで2015年には
MachinefabriekことRutger Zuyderveltとのコラボレーションアルバムも発表している。
Hakobuneもまた、2007年より、多数の作品を発表し、2015年にはテクノ系のアーティストによるリミックスアルバム『Vitex Negundo Re Worked & De Constructed』をリリースした。
この作品ではお互いのギタードローンが大海を漂う波風のように、現れそして消えていく。現実感のない深い竹林を彷徨うような、
どこか見た風景のような、夢の中の出来事でもあるような、またフロイト的な強迫観念のような持続音とObscured By Beams Of Sorrow(悲しみの光により覆い隠される)が示すような、深い悲しみを伴いつつも、希望の光が包み込むようなアンビエンスが夢幻の世界へと誘う。

the sonic landscapes. Yorifuji is from a small town in Hyogo, 
Japan and currently resides in Tokyo.

Dirk Serries

Since his first releases in the early 80s, uncompromising Belgian artist Dirk Serries has garnered respect with his wilful and specific minimal music and various experiments from and invitations to collaborate with recognised musicians like Steven Wilson, Steve Von Till, Justin Broadrick, Cult Of Luna, Teun Verbruggen, Colin Webster, Andrew Lisle, Rene Aquarius, Dead Neanderthals and Onno Govaert. He has been commisioned to write works for Dutch national television broadcaster VPRO, the Antwerp Zoo as well as architectural festival Biënnale Rotterdam and worked on stage with the Holland Symfonia orchestra. His discography encompasses stylistically diverse releases on labels like Relapse, Projekt, Conspiracy as well as his current creative partner Tonefloat, an outfit with years of experience in vinyl editions for acts like Porcupine Tree, Robert Fripp, Theo Travis and Anja Garbarek. Over the past thirty years, he has toured extensively through Europe and the USA and performed at some of experimental music's major venues and concert spaces, as headliner or in support of Low, Mono, My Bloody Valentine, Jesu and others.  He currently runs to the Tonefloat's New Wave Of Jazz label dedicated to his fascination for free jazz and improvisation.

Dirk Serries

Dirk Serriesはベルギー出身で、８０年代初頭にデビューし、それ以来妥協のない姿勢で、ミニマルミュージック、実験音楽を続けてきた。Steven Wilson, Steve Von Till, Justin Broadrick, Cult Of Luna、Robert Fripp, Theo Travisといったアーティストとのコラボレーションも発表。また、彼はオランダの国営テレビ放送VPROや、アントワープの動物園に音楽を制作し、舞台音楽も手がけてきました。過去３０年間に渡る活動歴で、多くのアメリカやヨーロッパツアーを敢行し、Low, Mono, My Bloody Valentineといったアーティストのサポートアクトもつとめました。現在はフリージャズと即興のためのレーベルを運営しています。

エレクトリック・ギターによるドローンを一貫して追求してきたsleepland、『June forecast』(2014）以来のフィジカルとしては2枚目のリリース。Silentseeingとは、silent + sightseeingを組み合わせた造語で、まさにこの言葉に象徴されるように静寂を遊覧するような内容となっている。研ぎすまされ、水の流れを思わせるギターの音色はジム・オルークが敬愛してやまない、ラファエル・トラルの初期作品集のような趣きである。既に関西ではアンビエントドローン系のイベントを多数開催しており、現場で培われた臨場感といったものが、精神力に昇華され、ギターの音色となって溢れ出している。アンビエントドローン作品の多くがそうであるように、この作品も１曲聞いただけでは、わからないアルバムを通して聞いて初めてわかる中毒性を持つ。アーティスト本人による解説では、草木のざわめき、虫の声、雨音、人混みの喧騒、遠くから聞こえる工事音などからインスピレーションを受け、一握の砂のようにこぼれ落ちてゆく日常の"無音"へ向けた作品を目指したとの事。永遠に響き渡る持続音たるドローンが目指す日常の"無音"とは何か、是非その耳でお確かめください。

this album has 10 drone songs made up electric guitar.minimalistic electric guitar drone sounds have the subtle shifts in harmonic and overtone structures as well as phase shifts.and this guitar drone layers generate many resonance in harmonic and overtone."for Silentseeing" is inspired by sound of insects, the sound of falling rain, the bustle of big cities, noise in construction work.

兵庫県在住。ロック、シューゲイザー、ポストロック等複数のバンドを並行して活動しながら、2011年よりソロ名義sleeplandでの音源制作を開始、2012年に英Somehow Recordings傘下のTwistedTreeLineより1st e.p.をリリース。2013年には英Spaceal Orbeats Recordsよりデジタルフォーマットでのアルバム「cloud’s longing」をリリース。2014年7月に国内レーベルWood Frameより初のCD作品となる「June forecast」を全国リリース。人の無意識、潜在意識に佇む音を追求し、音響と音階の狭間で、ギターを中心としたアンビエント、ドローンミュージックを展開中。

chihei hatakeyama was influenced by Fudaraku-tokai.
it is a form of the ascetic practice of sacrifice 
performed in medieval Japan.
A monk undertaking this practice would set out to 
sea in a small, single-sailed (but oar-less and rudderless) 
boat in the hope of arriving at the southern paradise 
of the Bodhisattva of Compassion (Avalokitesvara; Guanyin; Kannon). 
the fudaraku tokai was carried out over twenty times between 
the eleventh and seventeenth centuries.
chihei hatakeyama used only one sound file for making this album.
it is came from old vinyl.
chihei hatakeyama bought it at a small record shop in a bargain sale.
