Most people like to play peak time, some people like to warm up, but I think the most underrated DJ maneuver is the dancefloor switch, when the party gets started in one area and moves to another. It's a very specific chess problem: everybody is 3 drinks deep, the floor will be full in less than 2 songs (if yr gud), but you're still starting to the emptiest dancefloor imaginable getting PTSD from your time on the Bar Mitzvah circuit.

Such was the case when Guy Gerber invited me to play Rumors in Ibiza this past summer. I took the stick and move approach. Stick em with one ambient joint and then move fast. I think I handled it pretty well, but you be the judge.

Best Mix: 1:29:00 - One of my most evil unreleased joints into the most evil Unknown to the Unknown release of all time. Total confusion.

Worst Mix: 59:22 - This one also features one of mine, a Kendrick edit I was having fun playing during the height of the beef. Maybe I'm being hard on myself since I should have known better, but I think the moment you realize two songs are out of key you should urgently fade out the first one. And yet I had to keep riding the mix 🤦🏽‍♂️

Hailing from greater Frankfurt and being part of the former „next generation of cocoon artists“ Chris Tietjen looks at an impressive career for his young age. His musical taste is based on a foundation of funk, hip hop and reggae and was finally shaped and developed under the influence of artists and mentors like Sven Väth and Ricardo Villalobos. No wonder the former cocoon protégé played almost every bigger cocoon festival stage and clubs such as Amnesia Ibiza, Cocoonclub Frankfurt, Nature One or Green & Blue (just to name a few). Touring all year long and being an active part of the current Frankfurt scene Tietjen is not only working on his DJ skills. He also checks into his studio or join forces with his production partners and musical allies Christian Burkhardt, Reboot or Markus Fix. Tietjen’s productions can be found on labels like Epilog, Moan and of course on Cocoon which also hosts his „inhouse mix series“. Vinyl-lover and afterhour-marathon-man Chris Tietjen seems the be the perfect combination of oldskool musical influences and modern and contemporary party styles. Someone who keeps the innocent underground spirit of the great techno and house era alive but keeps on developing to a proper and grown up artist at the same time. Tietjen is working on his own style and taste and just doesn't follow the technology and trends of the club mainstream. Keep on spinning Chris and get the party started!
