Magnofon is British based producer Harry Towell, who records Deep House music, as well as operating within the Ambient music scene with his Whitelabrecs label.

Harry’s background in House music came from his DJing days in the early 2000s and ever since, he’s been experimenting with electronic music production. Primarily, he sees himself as a music lover and record fanatic, searching the depths of underground music scenes. He recently launched the Wallofhouse blog which curates a collection of the latest House records into a visual ‘wall’ of recommendations.

“I hope you enjoy this mix, which I aimed to keep deep and chilled throughout, hopefully with plenty of variation with dub, tech house, lo-fi and jazzy influences mixing with the tracks from my forthcoming ‘Flights’ EP.”

Paper Relics are a UK based duo active since 2010, consisting of Whitelabrecs label owner Harry Towell and his brother Stuart, a musician. They have released music on Time Released Sound, Audio Gourmet and Whitelabrecs.

About Tha Noota:

A dj from Poland, who started her dj path during pandemic in 2020. Her purpose was just to listen to her favourite music on a higher level and to be able to create her own mixes. After 2 months of learning she got a chance to play in a local electronic music club in Olsztyn, where she is based. Since then she plays regularly in her hometown as well as in other polish cities, practicing her skills and widening selection. She's especially bonded with dub techno genre but she also explores deep/hypnotic techno, ambient and house music. Her mix for Deep Electronics contains a piece of her favourite track of all times, which is Element Two by Variant."

Bio:
Magnofon is a side-project for artist and composer Harry Towell, who is better known in the Ambient scene as Spheruleus, or for running the Whitelabrecs label. Harry’s background in electronic music began as a DJ some 20 years ago, and he played Deep House, Dub and Techno styles across the midlands in the UK. He has been active as Magnofon since 2013 with releases on labels such as Canopy Sounds, Art Nouveau Records and his own now-defunct label Warehouse Decay.

Harry’s latest album as Magnofon is called Terrarium, out now on Whitelabrecs under the label’s eRecords series. The album is a mixture of Dub Techno, Deep House, Ambient and Micro House and a concept inspired by the natural world and all things botanical. To promote the mix, Harry has created this mix for Deep Electronics, exploring deep dubbed out rhythms, obscure textures and ambient tones. The hour-long session includes a track from the Terrarium album, alongside the likes of Rod Modell, Sven Weisemann, Fluxion and Soela.

Sleepland is Kobe, Japan based artist Kengo Yonemura who has released albums with labels such as Taâlem, White Paddy Mountain and Cellar Tapes since he began operating under this project back in 2011. Kengo has recently returned to his homeland after having spent some time residing in Berlin.

His sound is mainly based around guitar and synthesiser as well as the use of some field recordings. He has performed live on many occasions, including events which headlined fellow artists such as Chihei Hatakeyama, F.S Blumm, Asuna and Christoph Berg. He also plays guitar as part of a band named Weather Spoon in Osaka.

Transition/Composition was recorded in the comfort of his home town between 2012 and 2017. This album in fact consists of two different albums merged into one: ‘Transition’ is three mid/longform drones with longer track titles, whereas ‘Composition’ is made up of eight short form pieces with shorter names. The two albums overlap as they play, with each of the separate recordings folding into one. Not only are the recordings buried inside the mix but the track titles for ‘Transition’ are also embedded within those of ‘Composition’. The tracks of Transition are listed below along with a guide of where these sit within the wider album presentation:

The albums blend over a gapless audio presentation to emit a warmth in its early stages, as gentle guitar strokes adorn the hum of a comforting drone accompanied by washes of water and bird song. Before long, the album delves into deeper drone territory whilst retaining a restorative, comforting aesthetic. Towards the mid stages a foggy murk transmits before swathes of warm drone return, concluding with familiar sounds of bird song and soft rain.

Glåsbird is an anonymous composer whose albums are the score to imaginary films.
The artist is building a series of works about various geographical locations as well as providing music for film, sound design and remixes.
Their sound contains evident influences from modern classical and ambient music genres and this mix for Deep Breakfast is an epic two hour journey through modern classical composition.

The undulating landscape in the image is one of clear beauty and depicts the traditional instruments used throughout this mix. Whereas the electricity pylons that run through the valley represents the subtle electronic techniques used in many of the selections.

Whitelabrecs was set up by Harry Towell in late 2015 as another outlet to put out experimental electronic/acoustic music. It followed Harry’s previous labels Audio Gourmet, Tessellate and Warehouse Decay and focuses on a collectable series of highly limited edition vinyl-effect CDr packaging, with the first 50 releases influenced by white label vinyl records. The label also runs a digital only series called eRecords, with each of these releases including a special PDF booklet.
