Magnofon is British based producer Harry Towell, who records Deep House music, as well as operating within the Ambient music scene with his Whitelabrecs label.

Harry’s background in House music came from his DJing days in the early 2000s and ever since, he’s been experimenting with electronic music production. Primarily, he sees himself as a music lover and record fanatic, searching the depths of underground music scenes. He recently launched the Wallofhouse blog which curates a collection of the latest House records into a visual ‘wall’ of recommendations.

“I hope you enjoy this mix, which I aimed to keep deep and chilled throughout, hopefully with plenty of variation with dub, tech house, lo-fi and jazzy influences mixing with the tracks from my forthcoming ‘Flights’ EP.”

Paper Relics are a UK based duo active since 2010, consisting of Whitelabrecs label owner Harry Towell and his brother Stuart, a musician. They have released music on Time Released Sound, Audio Gourmet and Whitelabrecs.

This mix for Deep Breakfast clocks in at 2 hours and covers a wide range of post-rock, folk, ambient and guitar-based sounds that have had an influence on their latest EP ‘Emersion’.

About Tha Noota:

A dj from Poland, who started her dj path during pandemic in 2020. Her purpose was just to listen to her favourite music on a higher level and to be able to create her own mixes. After 2 months of learning she got a chance to play in a local electronic music club in Olsztyn, where she is based. Since then she plays regularly in her hometown as well as in other polish cities, practicing her skills and widening selection. She's especially bonded with dub techno genre but she also explores deep/hypnotic techno, ambient and house music. Her mix for Deep Electronics contains a piece of her favourite track of all times, which is Element Two by Variant."

Bio:
Magnofon is a side-project for artist and composer Harry Towell, who is better known in the Ambient scene as Spheruleus, or for running the Whitelabrecs label. Harry’s background in electronic music began as a DJ some 20 years ago, and he played Deep House, Dub and Techno styles across the midlands in the UK. He has been active as Magnofon since 2013 with releases on labels such as Canopy Sounds, Art Nouveau Records and his own now-defunct label Warehouse Decay.

Harry’s latest album as Magnofon is called Terrarium, out now on Whitelabrecs under the label’s eRecords series. The album is a mixture of Dub Techno, Deep House, Ambient and Micro House and a concept inspired by the natural world and all things botanical. To promote the mix, Harry has created this mix for Deep Electronics, exploring deep dubbed out rhythms, obscure textures and ambient tones. The hour-long session includes a track from the Terrarium album, alongside the likes of Rod Modell, Sven Weisemann, Fluxion and Soela.

Flicker & Hiss; Recalling Hope

We’re pleased to announce our sixtieth release, which is a collaborative project between renowned musician and Montreal, Canada activist Stefan Christoff and Italian sound artist Matteo Uggeri, as well as musicians Claire Abraham (Cello), Fern O’Dactyl (Violin), Peter Burton (Double Bass) and Will Eizlini (Tabla).

‘Raven, Raven, Raven’ is a longform piece which originates from a live performance at Casa Del Popolo in Montreal, between Christoff and the aforementioned musicians. The ensemble performance was for a benefit show at the Native Friendship Centre and at a later date this was subsequently passed to Milan-based artist Matteo Uggeri, who had previously collaborated with Stefan through their mutual contact Vasco Viviani, owner of Old Bicycle Records. Matteo was tasked with the opportunity to deconstruct, rearrange and rebuild this raw recording as well as to adorn it with additional layers of sounds. Matteo’s own take on the original work took up a new approach to something that was originally live and flowing and once each artist had their own space in which to bring their own separate ideas, they then spent a slow period of regular communication via email during which the project gathered the momentum to eventually achieve the final results which have been beautifully mastered by Ian Hawgood.

'Raven, Raven, Raven' still flows like a live record, as if Matteo was there, present at this intimate live music venue, playing to the small crowd. Field recordings, samples and radio static blend through the individual movements of this modern classical micro-symphony in a seamless way. The album is intended to be gapless, playing continually both as the single track on the CD or as the split 5 movements within the stream or digital version.

The title to this body of work reflects back to how the original concert performance was set up to help support indigenous programs for people struggling with homelessness and poverty, with birds not only being particularly important in poetics, but also in different indigenous cultures too. It is often a symbol and this motif repeats itself within the recurring themes throughout this recording both within the music and the beautiful packaging, which features paintings by Chris Day and graphic design which Matteo also contributed to. Both Stefan and Matteo care deeply about human rights and the playful composition they have produced alongside this group of musicians represent this, with characterful glints of hope and freedom.

Glåsbird is an anonymous composer whose albums are the score to imaginary films.
The artist is building a series of works about various geographical locations as well as providing music for film, sound design and remixes.
Their sound contains evident influences from modern classical and ambient music genres and this mix for Deep Breakfast is an epic two hour journey through modern classical composition.

The undulating landscape in the image is one of clear beauty and depicts the traditional instruments used throughout this mix. Whereas the electricity pylons that run through the valley represents the subtle electronic techniques used in many of the selections.

Whitelabrecs was set up by Harry Towell in late 2015 as another outlet to put out experimental electronic/acoustic music. It followed Harry’s previous labels Audio Gourmet, Tessellate and Warehouse Decay and focuses on a collectable series of highly limited edition vinyl-effect CDr packaging, with the first 50 releases influenced by white label vinyl records. The label also runs a digital only series called eRecords, with each of these releases including a special PDF booklet.
