Only few artists have their finger as close on the pulse of the time as the Rome/Tel Aviv-gronw up Whitesquare. A look into his discography confirms the latter. In 2019 Maurice, Whitesquare's real name, has released groundbreaking music on his very own Whitesquare Series label, namely 'Cinque Finschi' and 'Algernon', as well as his 'Time Balance EP' on VOD and the highly anticapted 'Visual Distortion of Reality' on Dj Tennis' in-demand imprint Life And Death. Aside from the afromentioned original music Whitesquare is about to drop two remixes on Disco Halal – Mount Kismet's 'Teenage Fantasy' gets an Acid-ish makeover – and Dutch label Atomnation. But when you thought you'd heard it all, Whitesquare delivers the latest art:cast for Torture the Artist and digs musically as deep as wide to prove that one might pinpoint the artist to quality music but not to a certain (sub)genre. Starting with (Italo)disco-vibes Maurice picks up the typical Whitesquare-groove with any proceeding minute one's in the mix. Bass lines flicker as pads and Disco samples vary and alternate in a harmonic and comfortable manner to create a feel-good atomsphere one delicately likes to move. Whitesquare's diversity is higly palpable, highly appreciated and smoothly sums up what one can already conclude from his releases: he's a multi-genre genius still remaining true to one groove – the Whitesquare groove.

art:cast °71 | David Kochs & Dominik Marz

Freshly after their 'Ghost Trance EP' on Huntleys + Palmers' sub-label Belters Augusburg residents Dominik Marz and David Kochs compiled the latest art:cast and come in with a deeply held and tightly squeezed progressing piece that can rather be determined by minutes thus length than it's musically flamboyance. The 56 minute lasting showdown, or belter, depicts the artists' musical state of mind in the most charming and sensitive way as it unites various genres or approaches as fluent, almost musically eloquent as Hemingway juggles with words in The Old Man and the Sea. Starting with deeply kept tunes, setting the tone of Marz & Kochs' art:cast experience, the duo follows a stringent build-up with rising tension, switching from home-listening to almost club-moments and coming back to those deep chords from the beginning – just with leaving the listener in a different state. Kochs and Marz haunt through music as stylistically confident as to create some more ghost trance.

The Spanish producer, who's had a reputation with labels such as Kompakt, TAU or Watergate Records, toddles through tracks, genres, music and delivers a mix that deserves the predicate extraordinary or in other words Upercent experiments with tunes, molds them together to a homogeneous mixture with a powerful signature in an almost perfectly arranged way. Far away from (recent) club sets, far away from dance floors, dissociating himself from raised hands under a sweaty sky, Upercent delivers an hour full memorable moments and manages the impossible like having the perfect match even if you swiped left. With several edits the Sevilla resident not only adds a strong personal note but manages to come up with an art:cast that overcomes the boundaries of genres as Upercent keeps the momentum (of the mix) going – smoothly and delicately and in an exciting manner.
