four young men disillusioned by the complacency of modern society decided to get together and raise their collective fists against the system. Gilbert (drums) named the band “Whitesugar” as a symbol of music’s power to achieve a state pure inebriation. Sweet and overpowering, Nijo’s funky basslines are our musical conscience and our own sugar rush. Whitesugar is the crucible in which our ideologies, aspirations and repressed frustration speak through Clement’s (guitar) hard hitting in-your-face music that jolts you out of your slumber while James (vocals) compels you to dissect the very essence of your identity. Along this journey we have been to many places, met incredible people who have inspired us with the way they live their lives. We've seen dreams come true through the many highs and lows and each passing day brings us to terms with the many truths and lies that surround us. We are thankful though; thankful for this crazy life which allows us to add our brand of color to its motley canvas.

Since our earliest days as an RATM tribute act, we have always believed that music should possess a higher purpose beyond random gigs and album sales. We tackle various social issues that affect the average person, not just in India, but across the globe. Last year, we used our song “Road” and its urgent folk-punk rhythms to draw media attention to the state of the roads in our city. Our music has even been used to protest the construction of nuclear plants in India. Our multilingual opus, “Farmer” draws its strength from the suffering of farmers driven to suicide by their failing crops. “Swami” is a hard-charging single that attempts to unite the ancient metaphysics of the itinerant Swamis of India with the modern culture that thwarts them. When James wonders “Is the Swami insane?” what he’s really asking is whether it is the Swami or society that has gone insane. These are the questions that drive us. This is who we are and this is our manifesto!
