Had an absolute blast opening the room for Ayesha and Overmono. Despite the janky mixer that only had left audio thru the headphones and the moment the music stopped (b/c the crossfader moved over LOL) it was such a vibe. When the music paused the crowd cheered and was just a great feeling overall. Thank you Chicago for the support :)

Recorded set from my first ever Liquid drum and bass performance with UAGC and Big Brain this past Saturday (December 2nd, 2023 / Chicago, IL) 

I’m a House music DJ with a love affair for this particular genre of drum and bass, a love affair that goes back to 2013. The genre has such a wide range, it can be jazzy, sexy, and melodic. The pretty higher elements of songs contrast beautifully with gnarly basslines creating such a fun atmosphere and vibe.   

It’s also a genre that lends itself well to the dramatic, and the ability to layer songs at half time is a huge creativity bonus. Using 3-4 CDJs, you can really go bananas and blend in and make new songs out of thin air. I was able to layer in multiple favorite songs and artists on top of stripped down DnB percussion without it coming across as cheesy or obnoxious - Above & Beyond, George Fitzgerald, Kerala Dust, Keinemusik, Eric Prydz, Thievery Corporation to name a few song cameos. This was a pleasure to perform, enjoy 🙌

Reggae has always been a vessel for speaking out against oppression and struggle, and spreading a message of peace and unity among us.  
In that spirit i stumbled across this beat and immediately thought of our friends and their families overseas, dealing with the violence between their governments, praying for survival everyday.  

I cannot take credit for the beat.  I stumbled upon it on a random scratch practice disc i burned long ago, and I'm still digging in the mp3 crate trying to find it.  It was the inspiration behind this quick project, and i always try to give credit to the artists that get my wheels turning.  So when i find it, you'll know.

**UPDATE...finally...through the miracle of Shazam and some downtime, i realized this beat was an instrumental used by Atmosphere for the track Blame Game, produced by a gent by the name of Mr. Baker out of New Zealand...mad props to all involved, and we appreciate letting us showcase your talents with our twist....peace...

Add to the mix some quick cuts (thanks to DJ Dlux for the continued instruction), a random Bob Dylan record, a scene from an old flick, and the lyrical styling of the Freak, and this is what we came up with.

So peace to all Rastas, Zulus, and whoever follows their faith by a peaceful means, to bring us all safely away from the destructive tendencies of others.  That my friends...is Hip Hop.
