What was your inspiration for this mix:

Lately, me and homies have been talking about “tracks you want to hear when you are walking into the club.” That’s what I wanted for this mix, a bunch of sassy, vocal heavy, ravey progressive cutz that gave you the feeling that if you walked into the club while any of these tracks were playing you’d be like “damn what is this?” Or “who is deejaying right now”. 

I also always wrap every mix around one song, I call it the “thesis” of the mix. For this one it was Shytalks - Touch The House released in 1995 on Consolidated Records. I imagine what it felt like walking into the club in 1995 and hearing that track blasting.... It was prolly crazy af.... It’s the perfect “club walker” track!

I don’t really know….. all I know is that there are certain aspects of myself that were left in 2023, and certain parts of myself in 2024 I intend on uplifting.

Advice to the new upcoming DJs:

If your goal is to get booked at clubs/raves then your primary focus should be on recording club/rave ready peak time mixes. I think about mixes like the sports homies that go back and watch films of their games. Listen for everything you did wrong (and right!). Record like one or two a month and go back to listen to them a lot. I give myself the 3-6 rule, if I can’t listen to the mix 3-6 times in a row without getting tired of it, then I dump the entire thing and reset the mood/vibe. I know a lot of people say that soundcloud mixes shouldn’t be perfect but I kinda disagree. At a party, you have some of the liberty to slightly mess up or maybe drop the wrong track because most people paid a cover…. so they’re not gonna dip if you kinda mess up. But with a soundcloud mix, people have 100% ability to change your mix in less than a second if the tempo or vibe slips away. If your vibe is consistent, your mixing is tight, your tracks are cohesive, and contribute to each others sound and to the overarching tempo/energy, and you ran that shit back 3-6 times, then fire off those mixes to soundcloud labels/podcasts in different cities so they know your sound and you’re on their radar. That’s how I got my first few out of town bookings. Oh and expect to get ghosted a lot (I still get ghosted all the time lol)

What's next for you in 2024?: 

There’s a few things on the back burner rn, on a low simmer, but I don't wanna speak on them until they’re ready to be served. As of right now, I am just happy to be living in LA and down the street from Trax Unit. Gyration Station has a lot coming up this year and I am so grateful to be working with them. I am just happy to be healthy, have a career I love and that allows me to have fun on the weekend and for having a string of consistent bookings. Rumors Mix Series #115: DJ Warning

Without people like Cashu (@carol-schutzer), São Paulo’s queer community wouldn't be thriving in the way that it is. The Mamba Negra label collective, party and label co-founder has been working tirelessly to provide safe spaces, creative outlets and raise funds for the LGBTQIA+ community for many years. She closely intertwines politics and dancing at events that reclaim urban spaces and now enjoys an international DJ diary that sees her mixing up breaks, techno, dancehall and electro across Amsterdam, Berlin, and places like our own Dekmantel Selectors.

She takes us on a similarly whirlwind tour with this week's mix, including some unreleased gems. It's a full-throttle party selection that fires through several house, club and techno rhythms - some bounce on big bass, some are twisted with raw percussion and some get stripped back to loopy drums and trippy sound designs. These global beats from the likes of DJ Wawa, Nick León, and Lewis Lowe add up to a colourful carnival atmosphere that sounds even better when the sun is shining.

Public sex has a long history as part of queer culture. What is that history? And how has it been shaped by public sex bans and crackdowns alongside bans on trans and gender-queer expression? Queer public sex today has also come under attack from within our communities. How can we make public sex more generous and capacious without devolving into shame and policing? How can different kinds of queers coexist—and hopefully interact in surprising and fun ways—given the different ways they approach and understand sex?
A lively conversation about what kinds of shared sex spaces we want and how to make it happen between Ben Miller (co-host and co-author of “Bad Gays”), João Florêncio (co-author of a forthcoming book on cruising) and three members of DTF, a new activist collective hosting more playful and de-normativizing play spaces at WHOLE for dykes, trannies and fags to fuck each other or like one another.
