James ‘Harri’ Harrigan and Max Raskin are Glasgow duo Manakinz.

The former is synonymous with Glasgow’s monumental Sub Club and his multi-storied Saturday night residency that’s been going strong for 33 years,‘Subculture’, alongside his long-time partner and fellow Glasgow legend, Domenic Cappello. Harrigan has put out a long list of releases as The Pa Pa Washington Trio, Daddy’s Favourite, H Foundation, DJ Harri & The Revenge, and Burnt Island Casuals.

Max started DJing in Glasgow clubs in 2006. He was resident at the legendary Sunday Circus for 9 fun-filled years, earning himself a solid reputation among heads as one of the city’s most thrilling and innovative players. He’s released on Sensu, Esa’s Rememory Music, La Dune, Posterboy, Lyceum Social Club and Huntleys & Palmers Clyde Built Compilation Series.

Initially Harri and Max were just sending out tracks to friends in the know, but when Weatherall phoned Harri to say he was loving the music, they stepped things up and have since put out on Jacques Renault’s Let’s Play House, Future Boogie, Monologues, Refuge and Mitchell Street. With projects in the pipeline with Jasper James (Harri’s son) and for Ashley Beedle and Jo Wallace's F*CLR, there’s plenty of quality to come in 24.

Manakinz have put together this maxi EP as the first release on their label, MODEL CITIZENZ, comprised of eight cuts that range from heady Alfos chug, via deep down dubby disco, to Detroit-tinged basement filth.

Next up on Tensnake's True Romance is some pure Disco heat courtesy of a collaboration between Igor Gonya & 3kelves. Based in Moscow and San Fransisco respectively, the duo step in and set it off with a blazing groove targeted directly beneath the disco ball.

'Tittman' kicks off with a broken beat that's set rolling into motion by a piano which is shadowed by a deep-set sub. What quickly follows is a masterclass in Disco sampling: expressive strings, funk licks and seductive vocals are all driven to boiling point by ripe, muscular drums.

Short, filtered breaks act to punctuate the flow but the energy never falters as a peak- time vibe is dialled in throughout. Make no mistake - this is highly spiced! And guaranteed to cause chaos.

Yung Dumb Records returns to Japan for their 20th record. "Lucy Time" is a versatile 4-tracker by burgeoning producer House Violence. The title track Lucy Time features a dusty swing, hazy stabs and pads, and an infectious vocal groove, perfect for a bubbling dance floor as the night enters its throes. By special request, Westcoast Goddess comes through with a 'Lost In The Forest' flip of the title track, an acid drenched hardware jam including woody Roland percussion and a beautiful musical crescendo that teeters the line of cute, nostalgic, and introspective. Eusthenopteron kicks off the B-side with off-kilter vocal samples, wavy and dark synth work, and a jacking rhythm, a sure fire afterhours anthem. The EP ends with Tats, a soulful tool with subtle musical homages to city pop artist Tatsuro Yamashita.

Three tracks in a total of six mixes make up this EP from Nice, France-based Vigi, which comes on Rayko's Rare Wiri label. 'Thinking About You' itself starts life sounding like an early 80s AOR/yacht rock excursion - think Toto or Foreigner - while the Extended DJ Mix chucks a 4/4 kick underneath it, but it's the ever-reliable Manuel Costela who comes with the most obviously floor-friendly of the three rubs. Elsewhere on the EP, 'You Got Me' mines 80s boogie sounds and comes complete with an elevated-tempo Boogietraxx Remix while the mellower 'Somethin' I Want' comes on like a Balearica-boogie meltdown.
