Now a decade after its release, industry titan Derrick Carter takes on the iconic track. The Chicago house legend understands what it means to be a genre pioneer, with his 90s output changing the sound of house for years to come; the DC Jack Track remix is sporadic in its structure, giving listeners an unpredictable yet controlled lesson in sonic evolution. Next up, Cologne’s Gewölbe resident and Kompakt mainstay Jonathan Kaspar applies his noise-based production techniques for a dark and twisted take on the house favourite.

I was in the UK last year after a massive summer of touring, caught the train down to Brighton with some friends, and ended up in an incredible studio overlooking the beach. I was missing home a bit, but feeling really inspired and wanted to write a feel-good record, reminding myself of the importance of saving time for the ones I care and love. Whilst (In the studio) overlooking the same site Fatboy Slim hosted his ‘Big Beach Boutique’, I was thinking about the UK’s dance music history, it inspired me, and decided to lean into the idea of writing something that sounds sampled, but isn't. I often like to write records completely on my own, but it feels so perfect to have written this one alongside some good pals — Clementine Douglas, Caitlin Stubbs & Toby Scott.

One of the OG Defected House Masters, Dennis Ferrer’s relationship with the iconic London label is checkpointed by a vast number of innovative originals, guiding house through many eras from soul and gospel to Afro and techno. Now renowned as one of the instantly recognisable anthems of modern house and the Defected catalogue, ‘Hey Hey’ receives two Afro house remixes from Jack Back and Da Capo & Kitty Amor. One of electronic music’s most recognisable artists, David Guetta created the Jack Back alias to return to his house roots, releasing the chart-topping Defected hit ‘(It Happens) Sometimes’ in 2018. His remix of Dennis Ferrer’s classic has been widely teased in his sets, including a DJ Mag livestream which resulted in a tidal wave of fan support; now the French titan presents the hotly anticipated ‘Hey Hey’, complete with pitched percussion steering us towards moments of tension and smooth, deep release. Up next on the package, South African producer Da Capo joins forces with a pioneer of the burgeoning UK Afro house scene, Mahaba Music label boss Kitty Amor. Together the pair create an unmissable take on the classic, presenting a brooding ‘Hey Hey’ that unfurls slowly to reveal growling, electronic rhythms that slice through the sound system with tenacity.
