Ari Lennox x Case - Missing Whipped Cream (Mashup)

just before aaliyah passed away, she sent her well wishes to mariah carey (she was always a huge fan) - who was undergoing a hard time personally and in the media. just two weeks later, aaliyah was no longer here on earth, and it was mariah carey who reached out to aaliyah's fans on her website. maybe that's why this combination of sonics hits me so hard. it's ethereal, beautiful, with a hip hop touch. i really wish they could have collaborated. 

i've had the idea to mix mariah carey's 'the distance' with aaliyah's 'one in a million' ever since 'caution' came out. there were never any stems for 'the distance', but tonight i made it work. i've dreamt of what it would sound like and it's BEAUTIFUL. i know i've mixed 'one in a million' plenty, but this is the only mashup to ever make me cry. i miss you so much, aaliyah.

I randomly had this idea pop into my head whilst listening to 'Choosey Lover', as Art of Noise's 'Moments In Love' had always been a childhood favorite track of mine. A bit surreal to hear Aaliyah's angelic vocals over an equally mysterious and angelic beat. I decided to keep the synths & chords from 'Choosey Lover' as well, as I felt they complimented 'Moments In Love' perfectly. Really hope you guys enjoy!

As SOON as DVSN's wonderful new track 'A Muse' came out last night, I automatically heard Beyoncé's vocals from the ending of the 'Say My Name (Timbaland Remix)' sliding over the instrumental. The Timbaland Remix is so incredibly underrated (Static Major killed it as usual), and I am BEYOND excited for DVSN'S new album. Anyways, kind of wish these songs were a bit closer in key (had to manipulate them a lot to make them sound listenable together) but alas, turned out pretty good in my mind. hope y'all enjoy!

immediately upon hearing 'ungodly hour', i knew the chords/key reminded me of kaytranada's legendary 'be your girl' remix. produced by disclosure, the title track was one of my personal highlights off of chloe & halle's phenomenal sophomore album. it has been such a pleasure to watch these two blossom into young women and explore uncharted territory musically.

another random idea that came to me like an hour ago! i was listening to beyoncé, shatta and major layers incredible ‘already’ and suddenly heard the drums from missy’s fire hit ‘pass that dutch’. figured they’d work in my head, and low and behold it fit with a little work (i had to filter the bass from 'pass that dutch', and lower it several semitones to match the key of ‘already’). truly hope y’all enjoy!
